Job Summary 

Knightscope is insourcing the Signals platform, including the firmware running on customer-deployed devices, from a third-party vendor. You will lead the first half of that firmware migration, working in tandem with a paired firmware engineer joining shortly after. Together you will bring device firmware ownership fully in-house. 

Location: ONSITE - Sunnyvale, CA

About the Role 

Knightscope is insourcing the Signals platform, including the firmware running on customer-deployed devices, from a third-party vendor. You will lead the first half of that firmware migration, working in tandem with a paired firmware engineer joining shortly after. Together you will bring device firmware ownership fully in-house. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the phased migration of Signals device firmware from vendor to internal ownership. 
  • Partner with the current vendor during handoff to capture design and update mechanisms. 
  • Build the internal firmware build and signing pipeline. 
  • Partner with Engineering Services on unified OTA delivery across the device fleet. 
  • Establish firmware release process, version control, and rollback discipline. 

Required Qualifications 

  • 7+ years in embedded firmware engineering. 
  • Hands-on experience with device firmware migration or OEM-to-internal handoff. 
  • Strong C/C++ and Linux embedded systems experience. 
  • OTA update mechanisms, secure boot, and firmware signing experience. 
  • Track record of production fleet firmware ownership. 

Nice to Have 

  • IoT or security device fleet experience. 
  • Prior work on cross-product firmware standards (multiple device lines). 
  • Familiarity with vendor-to-internal codebase transitions. 

Compensation and Benefits 

Base Salary: $160,000 to $190,000 (DOE)
