Lead Software Engineer

Role – As the Lead Software Engineer at Local Roots, you’ll be architecting and building the software platform of LocalX, our proprietary internal web based solution that empowers our farm operations team to manage our network of distributed indoor farms. You will focus on designing and building databases, real time monitoring and control through elegant front-end interfaces, back end support for machine vision and machine learning, and maximizing usability to enable our team to manage farms more efficiently. You’ll be solving challenges that will transform agriculture, crop monitoring, plant science, and food. Responsibilities – You should be confident making significant contributions in the following categories:

• Architecting cloud based software solutions from scratch for a scalable, data-heavy environment
• Building advanced, scalable, cloud based back end infrastructure and elegant user interfaces
• Architecting and implementing cloud based databases, data flow, security, interfaces, protocols
• Leading the data software team as our team grows and selecting the technologies used

Requirements – Your background should include all of the following:

• Extensive experience in multiple back end languages such as Java and Ruby
• Extensive experience in multiple front-end languages and technologies
• Confidence making technical decisions as an intelligent business person, minimizing engineering costs and technical debt while optimizing performance for a scaling business
• Significant experience designing and implementing various database architectures
• Confidence managing and leading projects from start to finish with little guidance
• Enthusiasm to problem solve, innovate, hack, and build

Bonus Skills – Bonus points if any of these also describe you:

• 5+ years professional experience
• Familiarity with control systems and process automation
• Experience in front end development for hardware related applications
• Experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision
• Experience with user interfaces, networking, agriculture, and food processing
