Senior Platform Engineer

$104,400 – $156,600 per year

TLDR

Architect cloud landing zones, Kubernetes platforms, and IaC standards while leading production incident response and automation.

Your Impact

The Senior Platform Engineer is a key technical leader on the Platform Engineering team, independently owning platform domains and driving their evolution. You design systems; not just implement them. You identify reliability, security, and scalability risks before they materialize, and you lead the technical response when they do.

About CivicPlus

At CivicPlus, we strive to bring our company vision to life through innovation and collaboration. Supported by approachable leadership and transparent communication, we’re empowered to make an impact on local government and the residents they serve. Grow your career alongside great people, where authenticity is welcome, successes are celebrated, and potential is nurtured.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will:

  • Own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of platform domains (e.g., the CI/CD platform, the Kubernetes platform, or the cloud foundations layer).
  • Architect and implement cloud landing zones, network topologies, and identity frameworks for new product lines or environments.
  • Define and enforce IaC standards and module design patterns across the Platform Engineering team.
  • Lead production incident response for P0/P1 platform incidents; drive post-incident reviews with actionable remediation.
  • Drive automation initiatives that reduce toil for platform engineers and product teams.
  • Mentor and provide technical code review for L1 and L2 engineers.
  • Partner with SRE on reliability reviews for new platform components.
  • Contribute to platform roadmap planning with independently identified opportunities and risks.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, services, and frameworks for adoption.

What We’re Looking For

We know that excellent candidates come from diverse backgrounds. Even if you don’t meet 100% of the listed requirements, we encourage you to apply!

  • 5–8 years of engineering experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or cloud operations with a track record of owning production systems end-to-end.
  • Expert-level Terraform: module authoring, state management, remote backends, and governance.
  • Production Kubernetes expertise: cluster lifecycle, networking (CNI), storage, security policies, and multi-tenancy.
  • Strong multi-cloud experience (AWS and Azure preferred).
  • Proficiency in Python or Go for automation and tooling development.
  • Experience designing CI/CD architectures for large engineering organizations.
  • AI-forward mindset with a demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, and work quality.
