We were part of Y Combinator in 2021 and raised a $2M seed round shortly after. Since then, we have built a small, high-ownership team focused on moving quickly and delivering meaningful customer impact.

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer with a strong mobile and frontend focus to help shape the primary way customers experience Bree.

You will own customer-facing features across our React Native application, from understanding the problem and collaborating on the experience through implementation, testing, release, and follow-up. You will work closely with Product, Design, CX, and other engineers to make complex financial journeys feel clear, trustworthy, and easy to use.

This is primarily a mobile and frontend role, but you will not be limited to a single layer. You should be comfortable working end to end across frontend code, API contracts, and backend dependencies so you can own the complete customer experience.

You will help us expand Bree across Canada, support new regulatory requirements, improve our mobile architecture, and make releases safer as the product and team continue to grow.

What You'll Do

• Own mobile and frontend features from product discovery through public release.

• Work across a TypeScript/Node serverless stack (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS) and React Native frontends.

• Collaborate closely with Product and Design to turn early ideas and mockups into thoughtful, usable experiences.

• Make pragmatic calls in ambiguous situations; unblock yourself and others without waiting on perfect specs.

• Instrument what you ship (logging, metrics, alerts) and add tests to keep releases stable.

• Improve existing surfaces: refactor opportunistically, pay down tech debt without slowing delivery.

• Own release readiness through staging, TestFlight, Google Play, release notes, smoke testing, and production monitoring.

What You'll Need

• Experience shipping customer-facing mobile or web products in a startup or similarly fast-moving environment.

• Strong TypeScript and React Native experience, or deep React experience with the ability to move quickly into React Native.

• A strong understanding of component design, state management, networking, navigation, and frontend architecture.

• An AI-native development approach, using modern tools throughout implementation, debugging, testing, and review while carefully validating their output.

• Demonstrate product judgment: you can refine a rough idea into a scoped, high-leverage release.

• Communicate clearly, default to ownership, and stay even-keeled when wrestling with engineering tradeoffs.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Expo, EAS, over-the-air updates, or similar React Native tooling.

• Observability chops (e.g., structured logging, tracing, performance profiling).

• Comfort with analytics/experimentation (event models, simple A/Bs) to validate features.

• Contributions to OSS or public write-ups about projects you’ve shipped.
