As a Localization Operations Manager you will have three equally important goals. One goal is to manage the Localization Program Management function. That means you and your team are responsible for on-time, high-quality and cost-efficient delivery of localized assets. A second goal is ensure our internal localization processes and our interactions with other Airbnb team as well as with 3rd party vendors, are fully automated, efficient and optimized.

A third goal is to be the main interface with our localization technology and translation vendors. This means closely working with the internationalization team and being the Localization product owner with all internal technology teams. This is a high-impact role and its success will be measured by the growing level of efficiency we will be measuring with the Localization Team. The ideal candidate will have a strong expertise and passion for the practice and process of globalization, internationalization, localization, translation and transcreation, and deeply understands what is entailed in shipping high-quality globalized products across a growing number of languages.


  • Manage a team of Localization Program Managers, who are responsible for interfacing with all product teams and delivering on-time, high-quality and cost-effective localized assets
  • Responsible for Localization Operations, including processes and optimizations with the localization team, with all internal functions and with 3rd party vendors
  • Main interface (product owner) with our localization technology partners
  • Main interface with our translation vendors regarding processes & deliverables
  • Main interface with Airbnb’s internationalization team
  • Advise/educate Airbnb’s business unit teams on globalization best practices
  • Accountable for all localization deliverables to all requesting teams
  • Ensure high quality, cost-effective and efficient product localization
  • Partner with localization team peers and members to improve processes/tools
  • Provide strategic input on scope, resourcing and sequencing of large bodies of work
  • Identify and predict obstacles, collisions and risk to projects across multiple teams and seek solutions to eliminate them
  • Ensure pertinent information is communicated and understood throughout the global team and relevant product development teams
  • Own the creation and management of high level Localization project timelines
  • Provide up-to-date visibility into large projects, team performance and progress against our team goals
  • Continuously evolve our localization process and tools to adapt to changing needs. Includes communication structures, project templates, and adoption of new tools
  • Define and manage how the localization team interfaces with other functions such as product management, design, and engineering
  • Cultivate, negotiate and manage relationships with 3rd party vendors
  • Facilitate strategic stakeholder meetings including preparing agendas, keeping conversation on-track and establishing action items and owners


  • 8+ years in Globalization Operations, Globalization Technology or Globalization Program Management
  • Track record of managing and shipping complex and high-quality globalized products in a digital product org
  • Deep knowledge of and appreciation for the localization process
  • Proven ability to manage a team’s operating budget and make strategic decisions to reduce cost over time
  • Background establishing systems, supporting teams, and developing relationships
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in mediation, negotiation, presentation and conflict resolution
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with experience interacting with senior leadership
  • A high-level of attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Competent with JIRA, Asana or equivalent. Must be able to manage a ticket queue
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about excellence and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with ambiguity in a fluid organization
  • A cool, collected demeanor with a smile in the face of adversity
  • Seeks out opportunities for self-development and continuing education
  • Goes above and beyond prescribed duties as and when required
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluency in two languages a must, knowledge of additional languages considered a plus
