About the role

It’s a cliche to say that “a picture is worth a thousand words”, but in this role, you’ll prove how true that cliche is! As a key player on Mixpanel’s communications design team, you will make an immediate and significant impact through design-driven storytelling.

From presentations, both external and internal, to data visualizations, infographics, print collateral, and more, you will set the tone for how the Mixpanel brand and message get expressed across a myriad of mediums and channels. You’ll work on a mix of small and large projects with Mixpanelers across the organization, from marketers and the internal culture team to executives and board members.

  • Believes design doesn’t happen in a vacuum but in deep collaboration with other colleagues and through a deep understanding of the intended audience
  • Loves to work across disciplines, conceptualizing a print book or storyboarding a video in the morning and building a million dollar pitch deck in the afternoon

You’ll be joining a multi-disciplinary team of designers, creatives, and marketers who love working on big meaty projects and campaigns together, in order to inspire our customers to use data to build the best experiences for their own customers.

What you’ll do:

  • Define, maintain, and evolve Mixpanel’s presentation templates and assets
  • Work closely with brand, marketing, sales, and executives, as well as the rest of the communications design team, to craft compelling presentations and stories
  • Partner with the content and communications design team on campaign assets like infographics, data visualizations, reports and eBooks, storyboarding for videos, and print collateral (books, postcards, etc)
  • Develop Mixpanel’s visual storytelling style across the company, both internal and external, and help our brand continue to be known as best-in-class for communicating complex ideas through design

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 4+ years of experience in digital, print, and/or graphic design
  • A deep understanding of design basics, including composition, color, imagery, and photography
  • Expert knowledge of relevant design and presentation software
  • Attention to detail – you are meticulous when it comes to typography, grids, balance, and white space
  • Experience with concepting and creating illustrations, iconography, and visual designs that express complex ideas clearly and in a compelling way
  • Can communicate design decisions clearly and effectively
  • Ability to design quickly and share progress openly and frequently
  • Bonus points if you have experience in or a strong desire to learn about data visualization
  • Bonus points if you have experience with animation
