The Who, What, Where and Why

Twilio is looking for an energetic and highly analytical individual to assist the Market Strategy team in driving strategic initiatives, assisting the management team in making informed decisions, and enabling our sales force to position more efficiently. This role is based in San Francisco, CA and will report directly to Head of Market Strategy.

About the job:

We are challenging the status-quo in a $3 trillion market. Every day, the Twilio team helps migrate communications from its legacy in hardware to its future in flexible, integrated software.

Twilio is the largest programmable communications platform in the world, with a proven history of unrivaled quality and performance. However, we are regularly coming up against competitors that optically look similar to Twilio. The problem is that even though we look alike, there is a monumental gap between Twilio and its competitors that we need to communicate to our current and future customers.

The Market Strategy Manager will help expose this gap by highlighting Twilio's advantage in software and its reputation for quality, performance and security—then deploy that message strategically within other programs and teams. The role of the Market Strategy team is to drive business growth by uncovering new market opportunities and driving the organization to leverage their core competency and gain competitive advantage.

This is done by providing up-to-date competitive intelligence and reliable analyses, enabling our sales force to compete more efficiently, and delivering appropriate flow of information to top-level management teams and key internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep abreast of top competitor news, recent activity, and identify market trends
  • Conduct research to benchmark our products vs the competition in order to distill actionable intelligence that informs business development decisions and initiatives
  • Assist with ad hoc competitive requests as well as ongoing, planned research using a range of research techniques, including primary and secondary research
  • Work with internal and external subject matter experts to gain and analyze competitive intelligence
  • Create competitive battle cards and various sales enablement materials to enable our sales force to compete more efficiently
  • Work closely with Enterprise GTM, Product Marketing and Sales to create plays and competitive take-out programs to drive greater Twilio revenue
  • Participate in customer visits to key clients with sales leaders
  • Develop customer-facing ROI tools/calculators across use cases to measure TCO
  • Research customer buying behaviors and create target buyer personas to develop an understanding of our clients’ business issues and the industries in which they operate
  • Deliver monthly updates to Senior Leadership team, including opportunity analysis, product and roadmap gaps,, and pricing and messaging guidance
  • Work with regional sales leads to deliver win/loss data and actionable intelligence

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or masters degree in Economics, Computer Science, Marketing, or other business-related field
  • Background in Management Consulting, Business Operations, Market/Competitive Intelligence or Product Management
  • Strong analytical skills and passion for analyzing products, competitors, and market dynamics
  • You are curious by nature and are able think outside the box to come up with effective solutions to big problems
  • Familiarity with Keynote is a plus
