Director / VP Business Development (NY)

Kobalt is excited to be adding a VP / Director of Business Development to its global strategy team. The objective of the role is to be externally facing; identifying opportunities for new commercial partnerships, investments and strategic acquisitions that will help Kobalt develop new capabilities, enter new markets or offer new services.

You will identify the businesses and contacts of start ups or larger operations in the tech and digital media landscape that can bring strategic benefit to Kobalt. You will initiate and build the relationships, undertake due diligence by analysing the business models, revenues and cost base. This information will then be synthesised into a proposal and pitch that you will take to key Kobalt stakeholders. This role will then manage deal negotiation to the point of transaction close. The expectation is that you will propose and close 1 or 2 major deals in your first year and build on that success.


The role will require a business development minded person, someone with a network of contacts in the tech and digital media space, with the ability to initiate conversations and build mutually beneficial dialogue. You will have strong commercial acumen to assess the viability of deal options and make thoughtful and robust recommendations. As a door opener and negotiator you will have the characteristics of a deal maker with the logical thinking and thoroughness of an investment analyst or management consultant.


It’s essential the person undertaking this role has deep experience working in tech, someone who knows the emerging businesses and trends. It is likely you will have operated in the venture capital or private equity arena or as a management consultant. You will be able to cite key transactions that you have brought in and closed. It expected this role will have come from a base of excellent academic achievement, ideally with a MBA, but most important is a track record of success and applying strong skills to spot, evaluate and secure a deal.
