Reports to the Executive Director of Finance and works closely with Medical Directors, Executive Directors and Client’s Compliance Committee. Directs and oversees overall programs focused on coding, chart auditing, and HIPAA compliance. Collaborates with senior management to develop business plans, short and long-term goals, along with measurable targets designed to improve efficiency, quality of care, clinical documentation, service excellence and appropriate reimbursement for services. Collaborates effectively with clinical and administrative leadership, physicians, nurses and a wide variety of other staff to ensure that coding and compliance goals are met. Maintains a high performance work environment characterized by positive relationships and a strong orientation to quality patient care.
Education and Experience
The above level of knowledge, skills and abilities are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Health Information Management, or related field. Completion of an accredited record technician program (ART), registered record administration program (RRA), or equivalent AMRA sponsored correspondence course in medical record technology with successful completion of a national accreditation examination preferred. A minimum of five years of auditing, coding, documentation, and medical record related experience including involvement in training/education required. Current certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), and/or a related accreditation organization is required. Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a multi-specialty physician organization also preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Requires an in-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, health information computer systems, CPT-4, ICD-9-CM, HCPCS, and documentation requirements for multi-specialty physician practices.
Requires current knowledge of medical billing procedures and third party payer and Medicare/Medicaid practices and procedures.
Demonstrates well developed organizational, planning, and technical abilities to effectively develop a recurring documentation, medical record, and coding review process.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of electronic medical record computer systems and computerized databases utilized at the physician offices and the ability to obtain needed information from such systems.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and educational skills to instruct management, providers, staff, and patients and a high level of interpersonal skills to obtain necessary cooperation and support.
Demonstrates strong leadership skills necessary to handle daily operational activities, analyze situations, make appropriate responses, coordinate resources to meet organizational and departmental needs and supervise assigned team members.

Travel among multiple sites.
