The position is the Sr. Inventory Accountant directly reporting to the Sr Manager of Accounting.  Inventory is a big piece of SIE’s balance sheet and is a critical part of the business.  Our current inventory holdings include Hardware, Peripherals and Software.  With our flagship hardware, PS4, and the recently introduced PlayStation VR, this role is responsible for managing and maintaining the accuracies of the cost of sales and the inventory valuation.

The role will manage the inventory accounting process for all inventory based products housed in 8 major warehouse locations (hardware, peripherals, software, and development toolkits).  Some of these responsibilities include pre-close activities, accruals, month end reporting, and account reconciliations between the sub ledgers to the general ledger.

The Inventory Accountant works directly with various internal groups such as Sales, Operations, AR, and Billing in collaboration with our external warehouses and logistics partners.

Principle Responsibilities:   

  • Handle inventory accounting for 8 major locations/warehouses to reconcile weekly cost of goods sold, analyze lower of cost or market, record cost of goods sold freight and its allocation to product, average and purchase price variances, work in process, returns in process, refurbishment, scrap, and any other inventory movements. Month end close responsibilities encompassing journal entries, account reconciliation, balance sheet schedule, etc.
  • Verify the average price per unit is in line and comparable to transfer prices from SIEI and the related cost of goods sold is appropriate
  • Work in partnership with contacts on the Operations and Sales teams regarding sales bundles and/or other inventory issues, as well as advise on new warehouse setups and applicable systematic accounting flow
  • Validate receipts and invoicing are accurate and maintain and prepare monthly settlements for inventory payable to SIEI
  • Maintain and update standard/pending costs in ERP/inventory module for all released hardware items
  • Calculate and review the quarterly analysis of inventory obsolescence reserves
  • Prepare inventory schedules and roll forwards for the management package
  • Collaborate with Logistics team to ensure correct freight rates are being utilized for accruals
  • Ad hoc projects and other miscellaneous accounting functions.

Qualifications:  (Lists out the experience, qualifications, and education required and preferred) 

  • Solid foundation in GAAP, with knowledge of inventory/cost accounting and its concepts
  • Strong accounting background and demonstrated the ability to understand bill of materials, bundling, and logistical terms
  • Demonstrated skills in understanding of the trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and footnote disclosures
  • Solid oral communication skills and analytical skills
  • Possess integrity and accountability and strong work ethic.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP and Oracle R12

Required Experience/Education:

  • BS Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience with good understanding of general ledger, statutory books, and month end close process
  • Ability to take initiative and command of given responsibilities
  • Experience in gaming company
  • Experience with SAP and Oracle ERP system and proficient in Excel

Preferred Experience/Education:                                                                                                                  

  • 5-7 years’ experience with experience in managing inventory with gaming company or companies that have large inventory valuation
  • Strong background in cost accounting and bill of materials
  • Strong understanding of the GL, P/L and Balance Sheet
  • Strong command of logistics and inventory flow
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex accounting issues and analysis.
