About the Role:

As the Senior Director of Marketing based out of our HQ in San Francisco, you will be at the forefront of generating demand for Strava across the globe. From driving brand awareness, to acquiring new members, to stoking the community already on Strava, the role will be as diverse as it is exciting.

A large part of the role will be to lead and guide a team of nine marketeers based at HQ. This team covers Central Brand Marketing (Content, Brand and Product Communications, CRM, PR) as well as Local Marketing for the North America region.

Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing (who is based in the UK), the Senior Director of Marketing is a key part of marketing leadership at Strava. They will be strategic by nature and will understand Strava’s need to simultaneously drive growth and build brand equity with athletes across the globe.

You will need to move fast and be comfortable with wearing many hats and juggling multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Help define the goals, core strategies and most efficient tactics for ongoing marketing programs and projects at Strava.
  • Ensure that the right measurement and analytics are in place to effectively measure success and ROI.   
  • Work closely with and influence the leads for Product, Design, Engineering and Business Development to ensure that our marketing strategies and tactics are in sync with wider company initiatives.
  • Nurture and mentor a talented set of direct reports about how to maximise their own potential.
  • Partner with leadership in Local Marketing and Brand Creative teams to ensure unified, high-quality output that is relevant to athletes around the world.
  • Budget effectively and track marketing spend ongoing.
  • Communicate athlete insights and target audience motivations back to the Product team regularly. Help us be sure that our product roadmap is validated with the correct athlete research.
  • Serve as proxy for the VP of Marketing with the Strava Management team when the time difference makes that a necessity.

 

About You:

You are extremely organized and you have a great ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Other requirements include:

  • 8+ years in a marketing leadership role, demonstrating a broad and varied experience in demand generation strategies and tactics.
  • A robust strategic filter and vision for prioritising projects and remaining focussed.
  • Proven experience leading a mid-size marketing org. Either client side or leading a large agency team.
  • An independent and resourceful approach. You make things happen and will evolve the marketing playbook as needed.
  • Previous experience of marketing in a tech company environment a plus. Demonstrable experience of scaling a product or network highly desirable.
  • Passion for sport and an understanding of endurance athletes.
  • Experience in successfully interacting with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent follow-through, judgment and common sense. “Make it happen” attitude.
  • Willingness to work across time zones. The Strava community is truly global.
