Scrum Master

Kitchener, Canada


In this facilitative position, you will be embedded with our development teams to understand their unique needs and challenges, and will serve as a guide and steward for the incremental and continuous improvement of their agile methodology. You will fill the role of a facilitator to raise the overall awareness level about agile, provide continuing education about new practices and processes, and encourage discipline and rigor in our methodology. More than being a steward of good practices, you are a caretaker of healthy team dynamics and keep your finger on the pulse of team morale and cohesion.

In conjunction with the Agile Lead, you will develop and coordinate shared initiatives to execute on the Engineering department's vision of responding rapidly to market opportunities. In addition to ongoing collaboration on agile practices and providing each other with constant feedback and ideas, you will work as a team to oversee elements of release-level project management using an ever-maturing methodology. 


  • Act as a central point of contact for all communications relating to the project(s)
  • Provide overall leadership, mentoring, and coaching for the Agile teams
  • Work with product managers to define requirements and maintain the backlog
  • Organize and drive Scrum Ceremonies – Daily Stand up, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives, Demo
  • Foster healthy team dynamics and collaboration
  • Proactively pinpoint and remove areas of inefficiencies and waste
  • Provide inputs and action Process changes as required
  • Identify and track key dependencies for the Scrum teams
  • Coordinating and communication with project resources, internal team and stakeholders on all aspects of project progression
  • Measure progress and monitoring product and team health
  • Risk Management including issue escalation and resolution
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Agile Lead and Product Owner
  • Maintain relevant metrics that help the team see how they are doing
  • Ensure a regular cadence of delivery for the product/program
  • Interface with the Agile Lead to identify impediments and address issues


  1. Scrum/Agile Project Management Methodology – especially around Coaching and onboarding teams that are new to Agile
  2. Proven Scrum Master/Coach experience
  3. Collaborative Team Player – being able to motivate the team and effectively have them work together
  4. Organized and focused on Execution


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading projects
  • 2-3 years of experience as an agile facilitator/scrum master
  • Bachelors Degree educated in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or Business
  • Knowledge of multiple agile practices (Scrum, XP, Kanban, etc.)
  • Experience with full SDLC
  • Experience working with Technical Product Management Teams.
  • CSM or CSP

  • Must be able to lead a team to make realistic and achievable delivery commitments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Supports and reinforcing the rules and any other process rules the team has agreed to
  • Facilitates the team’s progress toward the goal

  • Facilitates scrum ceremonies and team meetings
  • Supports the Product Owner. The SM supports the Product Owner in his efforts and facilitates a healthy intra-team dynamic with respect to priorities and scope
  • Eliminates team impediments
  • Promotes Lean-Agile quality practices
