CMF Designer (Job code CA1016GC) – Gardena, CA
Responsibilities:Responsible for providing guidance, input, direction, and techniques on specific projects and concepts. Develop and lead automotive design projects (production and concepts) within the parameters of the individual interior and exterior design processes. Research and development of new innovative materials and finishes: collaborations and strong guidance of suppliers to bring innovation into production vehicles. Create design concepts and persona profiles that reflect customer target. Visualize concepts in mood and image boards. Create Material boards and design Patterns and Graphics for various application areas on materials and finishes. Understand material and finish development timing and is able to create timelines according to set milestones. Create innovative and forward thinking design concepts. Develop feasible concepts and autonomous transposition into 3D, responsible for mostly 2D and 3D design concepts. Collaborate internally with all necessary parties and specialists in other areas (Exterior, Interior, CAD, Engineering and Fabrication// Modeling). Have strong experience with all phases of the design process, from ideation through production. Create compelling and appropriate design proposals for various concept and production vehicles in form of sketches, renderings, and 3D digital models. Mood boards and Material selections. Guide specific design projects from initial phases until final presentations. Understand and apply clients’ brand and design philosophies to new product ideas. Organize and manage a group of external contract resources (Contractors, Interns). Develop new concepts based on market and competition analysis. Identify and document goals and directions of all design discipline. Organize relevant materials and analyses and archives them.
Education and experience requirements: Bachelor (or foreign equivalent) in Transportation or Industrial Design or in a related field and 2 years of experience as an Automotive Color, Material, and Finish (“CMF”) Designer or closely related occupation. **Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.**
Special Requirements: Knowledge of Design process and Automotive Design process strong feeling for future trends and capability in translating Trends into Design Concepts. Strong Knowledge of Automotive production process and material and finish development. Strong feeling for the brand and automotive design itself: awareness of aesthetic excellence, design quality, and craftsmanship. Strong skills in most 2D Design Programs and Skills in 3D programs (Vred). Documented experience in preparing presentations and presenting design concepts through visual presentations on a professional level. Created Supplier Briefings and Design Kickoff Documents to communicate design intent to suppliers and oversee design developments for materials and finishes in a timely manner. Demonstrated exceptional creative proficiency with supporting portfolio.
Travel requirements: Ability to travel up to 25% within and outside of the U.S. to various unanticipated project sites based on project needs.
