Position Overview:

In November 2016, Rent The Runway will be launching a San Francisco location, a unique and impressive retail space in the heart of Union Square. Ours isn’t just a store….it’s the Dream Closet of the website brought to life.  Instead of looking like a traditional store with mannequins and racks, ours will look like a closet stocked with bountiful options, as if to convey to the shopper that this is their actual fantasy closet, and they can take what they want from it.  Likewise, it won’t function like a traditional store – shoppers can sign up for a fitting room, connect to see more styles online, and pick up a last minute rental.  We’ll also have our version of the ‘Genius Bar’, called the RTR Bar, to help customers post order (with pick up, drop off, and exchange). Our store will provide an elevated and inspiring setting for our one-on-one styling appointments with our team of expert stylists. The new SF location is an integral part of the future of retail for Rent the Runway, providing an upscale experience to every client that comes through the door, so they can feel their most confident and beautiful.

Rent the Runway’s Store allows clients the opportunity to have a personalized shopping experience with a highly knowledgeable RTR store stylist. Clients can schedule a 45 minute appointment, try on their favorite looks and place orders for their upcoming events. The Store is an integral part of RTR, providing “Cinderella experiences” to every client that comes through the door. We are looking for a driven and self-motivated person to join the Store team at Rent the Runway, who will consistently deliver exceptional customer service and bring our brand to life. The Inventory Associate will report to the Store Manager and will contribute directly to the growth and expansion of our store. This is an associate role with a focus on back of house, but is not limited to these duties.


  • Transport orders to designated area from store and vice versa
  • Use established procedures to move/update inventory and unload freight
  • Unload orders received from DFC to designated area
  • Utilize freight entrance to transport orders
  • Utilize a pick up log and walk-in list
  • Effectively communicate via radio to ensure customers orders are delivered to them as quickly as possible
  • Ability to provide support in different areas if necessary; moving supplies/furniture, transport garbage, re-rack inventory, etc.
  • Take initiative to assist clients during busy times
  • Maintain the cash wrap area (supplies, appearance)
  • Meet and interact with customers; demonstrate an enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Display a sense of urgency at all times

Position Requirements:

  • 1-2 years retail experience
  • Ability to carry 10-15lbs up and down stairs
  • Self-motivated and confident in communication skills
  • Good multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • High energy level
  • Must be willing to work evening, weekend, and holidays
  • Ability to commit a minimum of 20 hours a week.
