FutureLearn is a start-up founded by The Open University and offers a diverse range of free, high quality online courses from over 100 of the world’s leading universities and other outstanding cultural institutions such as the British Museum, the BFI, the BBC and the British Council. Since launching at the end of 2013, we have attracted over 5 million learners, who have registered from all over the world.

To support these new developments FutureLearn is expanding, and as such we are seeking another Digital Product Designer to join our team.


A unique opportunity for the right person to work within our agile, mixed discipline, product team on the visual design, marketing and user experience of our award winning digital product. You will be joining a successful team and contribute towards our mission with support from more senior designers to help you grow. Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with product managers, user experience lead, designers, developers, marketers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, to create forward-thinking solutions, pushing the boundaries to deliver successful outcomes for our learners and all those involved in creating courses.
  • Driving the user experience, interaction and visual design throughout the entire project lifecycle from initial idea generation, sketches, user flows and wireframes to the delivery of visually rich, inspiringly simple and easy-to-use experiences that enhance our brand.
  • Conducting simple user research and testing of your designs, analyse results and integrate these changes into your design process, with support and guidance from our user researchers.
  • Designing within the framework of the FutureLearn pattern library (see https://www.futurelearn.com/pattern-library) becoming an active participant in evolving and further developing the pattern library with the team.
  • Designing visually compelling marketing campaign assets, from initial idea generation to the delivery of visually rich and effective design solutions that work both in digital applications and print.
  • Presenting your work to groups of people, during sprint reviews and other situations, taking on feedback and adjusting designs as required.
  • Actively contribute to discussions about the product, championing the user experience and brand at all times.
