Try The World Technology

The technology team at Try The World is responsible for development and maintenance of the company's customer-facing site, managing cloud infrastructure, and closely supporting other teams (operations, marketing, customer experience, et al.) in our 35+-person company. We work with several of open-source technologies: Node.js and Ruby on Rails services; Liquid and Handlebars templates; Python scripts; RabbitMQ messaging infrastructure; and PostgreSQL databases . The size of our team and the breadth of its responsibilities means we rely on our engineers to be self-motivated and quickly follow through on tasks without requiring close supervision. In return our engineers are given leeway to use their own initiative.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer responsible for managing the interchange of data between our internal APIs, external APIs, and our user interfaces. Your primary focus will be the development of RESTful APIs, definition and maintenance of our databases, integration with our Order Management systems and our Logistics providers, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from all parts of our architecture..

Job Description: Junior back-end engineer

  • Program daily in Node.js, Express, and Sequelize, with extensive use of Promises.
  • Build out RESTful endpoints and lightweight aggregation layers.
  • Integrate multiple data sources and databases into one cohesive system
  • Build out unit tests and other automated tests.
  • Develop new features and iterate on existing features.
  • Implementation of security and data protection
  • Design and implement low-latency, high-availability and performant applications
  • Help define architectures and design patterns.
  • Participate in code reviews.

  • Experience with Java, Ruby on Rails, and Python
  • Experience integrating with E-Commerce platforms, especially Shopify
  • Experience integrating with Subscription Management solutions, primarily Chargify
  • Knowledge of MQ and message-based architectures and understanding of Worker Queues, Pub/Sub, and Topics
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and Front-End Frameworks
  • Back End Web Development: 3 years
