Overview:

The DepartmentInformation Systems and Technology (IST) - Our group supports all of the IT infrastructure for SpaceX's design/development, production, test, and launch groups.  We deploy and maintain some of the most advanced systems in the industry within a mid-sized enterprise environment.  You will not find another company in Southern California that is investing in as cool an IT infrastructure.

The Job
SpaceX is looking for an experienced Director of IT Services with deep knowledge and experience in world-class IT service delivery.  This position will manage IT services and is responsible for service delivery and customer satisfaction, in a mode consistent with the standardized IT environment and architecture.  Candidates must have experience designing and running services organizations capable of meeting the demanding needs of “high caliber engineers” and supporting critical work such as Launch and Mission operations and 7x24 manufacturing operations.  This team delivers the complete lifecycle of IT services for the staff at SpaceX, from onboarding and setup, to upgrade, installation, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of hardware and software solutions, through asset recovery and protection.  This team also has architectural responsibilities in the areas of end-user compute infrastructure, printing, and conference room technologies.  The person in this position must have strong overall IT technical skills, while also having excellent customer services/interaction skills and superior organizational and prioritization management skills.
 
This candidate needs to be flexible and someone who will flourish in a fast-paced and challenging environment.  He or she should be a self-starter and have excellent motivation, leadership, and ingenuity to excel at this position.  This is a “hands-on” management position; the candidate needs be able to coach, motivate and lead the team, while also being capable of assisting with the design and execution of any/all programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage the enterprise service desk operations, from capturing request/problem reports to assuring that they get resolved in a timely and efficient basis, striving to continuously improve the process, procedures and customer experience.
  • Design and manage an exceptional “on-boarding” experience for new SpaceX employees, enabling employees to be super productive day.
  • Design, implement, evaluate, negotiate and maintain end user hardware and software standards (desktop, laptop, mobile devices), and create process, procedures and automation for the lifecycle management of these technologies over time.
  • Forecast, negotiate, order, stock and deploy IT end user assets used in the operations of the business.
  • Design, implement and maintain all printing/scanning solutions enterprise-wide.
  • Design, implement and manage conference room technologies that enable effective collaboration for SpaceXers.
  • Negotiate and manage software licenses and services.
  • Schedule and provide after-hours and/or weekend support when necessary.
  • Interact with SpaceXers to provide solutions, handle escalations, measure customer satisfaction and resolve problems in a timely and proactive manner.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification in Computer Science or Information Technology field or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 10 years of enterprise level managerial experience in IT services.


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in client technologies (Windows, Mac, Linux), printing solutions, conference room technologies, with a background in Windows server technologies.
  • Experience in design, deployment, management and improvement of IT service desk operations.
  • Passion for world-class customer service, and delivery and a focus around “setting and meeting expectations.”
  • Ability to write instructional documentation and convey highly technical ideas in terms that non-geeks can understand.
  • Ability to design and manage a services organization.
  • A motivated self-starting personality, able to work independently while maintaining patience with constant interruptions and multiple requests.
  • Must be comfortable working with mission critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilities.


Additional Requirements:

  • Must be physically fit enough to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. for duties such as equipment deployment/recovery, office moves.
