(View All Jobs)

We are continuing to grow and we are looking for a Development Team Lead for our Platform Infrastructure team. The opportunity is to lead a team of  platform infrastructure developers. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and operating the infrastructure and tooling used by the many product development teams in delivering their services and systems to our customers.

We believe strongly in the "You wrote it, you run it" philosophy and our Platform Infrastructure team is charged with helping our development teams and streams do this in an intelligent and efficient way.

Headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, Envato is the leading marketplace for creative assets and creative people. With more than 300 staff and contractors worldwide, we've helped a community of creative sellers earn more than $400 Million. Millions of people around the world choose our marketplace, studio and courses to buy files, hire freelancers, or learn the skills needed to build websites, videos, apps, graphics and more. You might be surprised to know that we run some of the biggest websites in the world!

Recently, JobAdvisor awarded us the title of Australia's Coolest Company for Women and we were named as one of the Best Places to Work in Australia in the 2015 and 2016 BRW Awards.

All applicants will be considered for all open engineering roles across the Envato marketplace (Market, Tuts+, Studio, etc.)

What you'll be doing

As the Development Team Lead  of the Platform Infrastructure team, you’ll be focused on providing their technical vision and leadership.  You'll design, manage and operate systems to solve problems that cross team boundaries in addition to working to raise the bar in the infrastructure space across the whole company.

You will collaborate with the technical leads of other teams to evangelise infrastructure best practices throughout the company.  You'll help identify the need for cross-team services  and offer solutions that range from the creation of "sensible defaults"  to be used by teams when they implement through to fully managed services for them to use.

You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of your services;  from forecasting and budgeting, the roadmap for the service through to the building operation of systems and services.

You’ll also play a significant role in company-wide infrastructure architecture discussions.
You may line manage other developers in the group.

What we're looking for

  • Substantial technical leadership and infrastructure architecture experience at least five years
  • Very strong technology skills in building and supporting large scale web applications
  • Strong familiarity with patterns of infrastructure design and system integration
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas to nontechnical and technical people
  • Experience managing technical staff
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven effective in working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, ideally using Agile processes
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment requiring adaptability
  • Displays integrity and ethical behaviour; interacts fairly, honestly and professionally in all business dealings
  • Ability to increase the team’s output without slipping quality
  • Ability to establish relationships and work with other business teams (support, marketing, legal, etc.)
  • Ability to take and give constructive feedback
  • Will promote the team within the local and global development communities
  • Displays honesty, openness, fairness, transparency and integrity in line with Envato’s Values

A Great Team and Culture

  • Developers are responsible for features from inception through to them being in the hands of customers. The developers talk directly to customers about what they're working on
  • We do continuous delivery properly: any team member can deploy, and we routinely do dozens deploys a day
  • Our infrastructure is hosted in AWS
  • We publish portions of our code as open source, and contribute back to open source projects we use
  • We were recently named Australia's Coolest Tech Company by JobAdvisor and one of the Best Places to Work in Australia
  • A fantastic culture of creatively minded, hard working people who are passionate about Envato and being part of its growth and success
  • Flexible working conditions – we want you to love your work but also your life outside of Envato
  • We actively work on creating a safe, inclusive environment free from discrimination
  • In addition to hiring for our Melbourne CBD office, we will also consider applications from those who would like to work remotely (Australia wide)
  • Future career progression will be available across the entire business - we're big on internal opportunities and professional growth!
