LendUp (YC W12) is a financial technology startup based in SF whose mission is to provide anyone with a path to better financial health. Our first products are focused on providing dignified credit to the 56% of the US who has too low a credit score to access most traditional banks.

About the role:

We're looking for a VP of People Operations to recruit, develop, and retain the remarkable collection of talent at LendUp.  You'll be responsible for championing LendUp’s culture and values, partnering with our leaders to help them build and develop their organizations, and making sure all people-related decisions are based on data. You'll also be responsible for ensuring that LendUp’s comp/benefits are competitive and compliance procedures are up-to-date. From recruiting world-class talent to coaching LendUp’s leaders on how to more effectively lead their teams on a daily basis, our ideal candidate is a seasoned HR executive with amazing communication skills and a penchant for getting stuff done. The three major departments managed by the role are core HR, recruiting, and employee experience (facilities, activities, and development).  He/she demonstrates skills and competencies that include, but are not limited to: strategy, organizational knowledge and development, talent development and management, leadership development, conflict management, and a mission focus. With transparency he/she will continually define culture as a means to empower individuals to connect with each other and their work, and to align teams with the company’s goals.

You will:

  • Provide thought leadership regarding organizational and people-related strategy and execution
  • Work with company leaders to create training processes, coach management teams, and implement manager development
  • Ensure recruiting activities attract a diversity of talent needed to meet the company’s business goals
  • Collaborate with LendUp’s senior leadership team to create a comprehensive people plan for the company's long-term success
  • Oversee LendUp’s quarterly OKR and performance management processes, including 360 degree reviews for senior leadership team members
  • Take the lead on internal communications to ensure LendUp’s employees always have the information they need to excel in their jobs
  • Solve employee problems and get to the root cause of any issue, no matter how complex, and design and quickly implement cross-functional solutions
  • Lead the charge on company comp/benefits philosophy, plan design, and overall health/wellness programs
  • Ensure HR subject matter expertise on current federal, state and case law changes is in place, and that the company is compliant with laws and regulations
  • Provide insightful data to guide all of LendUp’s people-related discussions and decisions

You will have:

  • 10+ years in an HR role in a start-up or fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years in an HR leadership role in a start-up or fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinker with extensive experience solving complex organizational problems through people-related solutions
  • Excel at influencing people through strong relationships, domain expertise, and the use of data
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing comp/benefits policies and programs
  • Demonstrated expertise in career planning, learning and development, coaching, performance management, and recognition programs
  • Knowledge of the cutting-edge benefits marketplace including differences between providers, competitive benchmarking, and market trends
  • Excel at analyzing data, understanding trends, and developing recommendations into action plans
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that can be applied at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to launch and drive programs independently
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
