Suffolk University is seeking qualified candidates to consider for a full-time, non-tenure track, Instructor position starting January 1, 2017 and ending June 30, 2018 with the possibility of renewal subject to College and University needs. We are seeking candidates with a doctorate in biology or a closely related field. This position will involve course instruction, lab management duties, faculty research support, and undergraduate student advising and mentorship.
The teaching and lab support responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to introductory biology (BIO111/L111 and BIO114/L114) and microbiology (BIO285). This position will include the propagation of non-animal specimens (including plants) and invertebrates, providing for the care and proper functioning of the plant growth chamber and all of the light and stereo microscopes for the department (upwards of 50 scopes), curating preserved specimens and skeletons of various animal taxa, and organizing, maintaining, and modernizing an extensive collection of microscope slides. The Instructor will also assist with developing and implementing experiential laboratory exercises for our students.
Additionally, the instructor will provide expertise and support to full time faculty conducting research in the department. The instructor will assist with the drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the creation of safety training programs and protocols for students and faculty working with a variety of organism. The instructor will ensure that all safety protocols are implemented in a timely fashion and that they remain up to date. The instructor will also create an electronic inventory and preventative maintenance schedule for all of the equipment housed in the department.
