HomeAway is seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Finance Director to lead its central finance group at the headquarters in Austin, Texas. This leadership role is a part of the global Financial Planning & Analysis organization working directly with the Sr. Director of FP&A and the CFO. Central finance’s charge is to provide a single voice to HomeAway’s executive team and parent company, Expedia, for all things financial in nature. This role partners very closely with HomeAway’s CFO and leads the strategic planning process, annual financial calendar, and all monthly business review cycles. This role is also accountable for all executive presentations in support of the Sr. Director of Global FP&A and the CFO. This leader will also have accountability for the global G&A cost planning, reporting and management for HomeAway.
This role will be expected to not only own the process but also be expected to create sound recommendations and influence decision-making among senior level corporate and business leaders through influence and executive level presentation.
⁃ Provide leadership and oversight for a staff of 4-5 people, and become an invaluable partner to the Sr. Director and CFO. Manage the team to meet deliverables while developing professional growth opportunities for team members. Support the team by providing conceptual and technical model-build advice that results in reliable, easy to audit and scalable financial models and projections. Drive efficiencies in the team by championing automation and process improvement both internally with the immediate team and with Analytics and IT groups.
⁃ Set a clear tone for all aspects of corporate financial guidance (annual planning, quarterly forecasting, monthly outlooks, strategic planning) by working closely with FP&A leaders, their teams, functional leaders and business teams.
⁃ Bridge internal management reporting forecasts with parent company reporting projections by consolidating regular forecasts from FP&A counter parts and driving conversion to Expedia presentation. Provide deep analysis, including identification of risks and opportunities, in key areas such as revenue, expense and headcount.
⁃ Support the business and parent company earnings by providing comprehensive trend analysis, ad hoc deep-dives to emerging areas and recommending financial messaging around projections.
⁃ Support new strategic initiatives such as new commercial arrangements, business development opportunities or new product launches from the onset by providing modeling support and identifying impacts to total company.
To be successful, the candidate must be exceptionally strong in the following areas:
⁃ Comfortable with and demonstrated ability to thrive in a very fast paced environment and highly visible role where priorities are constantly shuffling, and speed without sacrificing data quality is the norm.
⁃ Highly skilled in financial modeling including strategic financial planning, acquisition opportunities, cash flow and the like. Prior investment banking or corporate finance experience will be very helpful.
⁃ Exceptionally strong process and structure. This role must bring financial process and structure to the entire organization during a time of significant business change.
⁃ Executive presence is a must. The incumbent must portray a strong executive presence and be very articulate (both verbally and in writing), concise, outspoken, yet respectful.
⁃ Exceptional at summarizing and then synthesizing large amounts of data (both quantitative and qualitative) into a distilled, executive level PowerPoint presentation. Prior consulting experience will be very valuable in this regard.
⁃ Bachelors in Finance, Business, or Economics with 12 -15 years of progressive, related experience. An M.B.A. is desired but not required.
⁃ Advanced Excel modeling skills that span new “from scratch” initiatives as well as improving the efficiency and accuracy in existing models. Must be able to create complete financials (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow) that incorporate currency uncertainty and complexity.
⁃ Strong critical thinking skills, with an innate sense of curiosity, that is complimented by an aptitude for learning quickly
⁃ Experience with financials ERPS or other OLAP based financial planning software such as Hyperion, Prophix, Adaptive, Cognos or Clarity.
⁃ Track record of building solid partnerships with peers and executive level leaders. Ability to work independently as well as in team environments, particularly cross-functional teams.
⁃ Solid time management and multi-tasking abilities. Must be “plan-ful” and proactive in approach, given the complex and worldwide nature of our organization.
⁃ Foundational understanding of US GAAP Accounting, particularly of revenue recognition and capitalization for tech companies.
