Associate Director, Demand Planning and Forecasting

Accurate product level forecasting is critical to an efficient supply chain.  It is also notoriously hard to get right.  Wayfair is looking for a leader to drive our approach and execution for forecasting.  We are looking for an analytically inclined person with sound business judgement and strong technical acumen to lead our forecasting team.  This role is critical to driving Wayfair’s growth, by ensuring accurate forecasts that enable appropriate stock levels and efficient capital use. 

The Associate Director of Demand planning and forecasting will lead a team of forecasting analysts who are executing the forecasting process.  You will collaborate closely with internal and third party stakeholders to refine our forecasting algorithms and modeling inputs.  You will own the forecasting process and have full responsibility for driving improvements in our forecasts.  Successful forecasting is a foundational requirement for many downstream KPIs:  In stock rates, inventory turns, delivery times and fulfillment services growth, to name a few.  This role has a huge opportunity to drive results across all of our business lines.  This is a leadership role that will be highly visible to our senior leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop our strategy for product level forecasts
  • Work with internal and external technology providers to operationalize the forecasting strategy
  • Drive continuous improvement in our forecasting process
  • Measure and report on forecasting accuracy
  • Lead a team of forecasting managers and analysts who are executing the forecasts
  • Working closely with inventory and stocking teams to translate forecasts into product orders
  • Work closely with category merchants to ensure accurate forecasts and stock levels for key items
  • Interact with key supplier partners to gain buy-in on our forecasts


Skills and Requirements:

  • 8+ years relevant experience, preferably in management consulting, ecommerce or retail environment
  • Ability to lead a team of forecasters to consistently meet KPI goals
  • MBA or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience building a business or delivering against aggressive targets & goals in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Senior presence; able to clearly and consistently work side-by-side with a broad range of seniorities and functions to achieve objectives
  • Analytical thinker who looks for (and finds) answers in the data
  • Articulate, persuasive communicator with excellent negotiations and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to hit the ground running – a confident, entrepreneurial self-starter
  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects, and to delegate tasks appropriately
  • Innovative problem-solving skills – dissect and determine root causes of problems, and implement solutions
  • Experience in business and data analytics, Excel
  • Proven track record of leadership, taking ownership and driving results
  • Process oriented, with a tireless focus on quality of output and throughput
