Associate Director, Transportation Operations

The Central Logistics team is looking for a proven leader to drive a transformative redesign of our shipping network.  This person will play a key role in a major company initiative to roll out a best in class transportation network through more intelligent network routing, pooling, and cross docking.  As an integral member of this team, you’ll be able to put your stamp on the design and execution of a very unique and proprietary furniture network.  

We are looking for the right individual with a strong talent for team building and management and in order to develop and lead our Transportation Operations group responsible for ensuring X thousands of shipments per day get to our customers, quickly and undamaged.  An entrepreneurial spirit to lay the foundation for a rapidly growing team’s processes and experience in over the road transportation will help this individual succeed in the critical initiative for the company. This is a highly visible and exciting role for the company and one that will offer the right candidate an opportunity to lead one of our core operational functions.

What you will do:

  • Drive enhancements within Wayfair’s transportation process as it relates to shipment tracking, exception handling and claims management at very high volumes on time critical freight
  • Enhance our route planning and ad hoc load building procedures for multi stop shipments
  • Eliminate waste and buffer in order to speed up overall network transit
  • Identify opportunities in network planning to eliminate uncertainty and drive reductions in cost
  • Provide direct input into the development, implementation and reporting of partner provider KPI/metrics to monitor all aspects of the transportation process
  • Implement provider reward program across non asset partner channel to maximize efforts and enhance the mutual customer’s experience 

Who you are:

  • A cross functional leader and coach comfortable working in a new and rapidly growing space
  • MBA or other graduate degree in engineering, logistics, or other supply chain related field preferred but accomplished professionals will always be considered
  • You have 7+ years of logistics and transportation experience under your belt in TL, LTL and/or private and dedicated fleets
  • Analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems
  • Extremely process driven
  • Able to lead discussions and communicate effectively
  • Entrepreneurial
