Senior Software Engineer- Fulfillment Platforms

Boston, United States

In Fulfillment Platforms, we believe that the more complex, valuable, and interesting things happen after a customer places an order within the world of ecommerce.  Our transportation network is a proprietary system that enables us to efficiently move freight between suppliers and customers. On this team, we own things; products, work-flows, specs and design.

You get to solve challenging business problems which extend the competitive advantage that separates Wayfair from other online retailers.  We work on a diverse group of systems that covers everything in the web stack – front-end tools, batch and event driven processing, SQL databases and more.  All of this comes together with the goal of creating a pleasant shipping and delivery experience that exceeds customer expectations.

We are looking for strong programmers and critical thinkers who can solve problems quickly.  No previous domain experience is required – you’ll learn about our business when you get here.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to own the most complex parts of this system, perform activities such as technical design & review, and mentor junior engineers.

Sample Projects:

  • Architect our backend ecommerce functionality with an eye towards efficiency and scalability
  • Develop carrier selection algorithms, which chooses among hundreds of large-parcel carriers with the goal of reducing shipping costs, transit time, and damage rates
  • Build robust systems with redundancies that ensure maximum warehouse uptime with the fewest external dependencies
  • Scale existing systems to painlessly handle significantly larger volumes as we expand our number of warehouses

You ideally have:

  • 2-5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience and desire to work in an agile environment
  • Ability to work with large and complex SQL databases
  • Strong back end programming experience
  • Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with other engineering teams

Nice to haves:

  • Experience implementing functionality according to a Service-Oriented-Architecture (SOA)
  • Working knowledge of website security best practices
  • Database performance tuning
  • Some web programming or JavaScript experience
