Associate Director, Head of Category Planning

Wayfair is looking for a talented, entrepreneurial, and highly analytical leader to head Wayfair.com’s Category Planning team, which acts as a centralized resource and thought-partner for Wayfair Senior Leadership and all of Category Management.

You will be responsible for a robust team of highly motivated analysts and managers overseeing:

  • Cross-functional business-improvement projects and analytics
  • Category Management and Wayfair-wide performance reporting
  • Maintenance & improvement of CM technology and tools
  • Trouble-shooting and problem-solving key business requests
  • Category Management onboarding and tools training

As the leader of the analytics, reporting, and problem-solving engine for Category Management, you will gain cross functional exposure to all aspects of Wayfair, have high visibility with the CEO, Wayfair GM and other senior management, and be an indispensable thought leader for the organization.  You will focus on process improvement, driving efficiency gains, and continuous advancement in the broader Category Management organization and across Wayfair.

As an Associate Director you will:

  • Collaborate across departments to drive category and Wayfair goals (departments include Pricing, Marketing, Site Merchandising, Promotions, Supplier Operations, Engineering, Process Improvement, Storefront / Product Management, Customer Service, Business Intelligence)
  • Identify and problem solve the most pressing Wayfair issues, having real impact to overall company bottom-line
  • Drive a wide range of projects and initiatives, from large-scale technology projects to strategic supplier outreach
  • Develop and lead a growing team of highly capable and motivated Project Managers and Analysts
  • Work with Category Management Senior Director and Wayfair GMM to define the long-term Category Planning roadmap and staff the team accordingly
  • Prioritize competing interests and focus project plans on the highest impact activities
  • Use SQL, data analytics, and other research tools to find patterns and identity root causes
  • Conduct regular meetings with cross-functional senior leadership to review project progress and analytics results
  • Provide full transparency into your roadmap via periodic email updates to the department and other key stakeholders
  • Lead category management trainings and onboarding sessions
  • Become the “go-to” resource for all of category management metrics, tools and technology

You’re a great fit if you have:

  • An MBA or technical graduate degree from top tier school (preferred)
  • 3 to 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in management consulting, finance, private equity, ecommerce, or other highly analytical business leadership position
  • Experience managing and cultivating a high-performing team
  • A high comfort level with large data sets; may consider yourself an “Analytics Junkie”
  • Entrepreneurial mindset that relishes problem solving, trouble-shooting and improving processes / tools
  • Executive-level written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with leaders across the organization
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work well within a collaborative, dynamic organization
  • Prior experience in a high performance, fast-paced industry
  • Exceptional Excel skills and familiarity with SQL and database infrastructure
  • An interest and familiarity in a technology-driven business environment
