Vulcan’s Technology Group develops cutting-edge technology to further Vulcan’s philanthropic, scientific and technology missions. This team has the opportunity to design, build, and deploy products and services that improve people’s lives and expand the frontiers of science and technology.

Vulcan is seeking a Senior or Principal Product Manager to identify and evaluate business opportunities for Vulcan technology, to create and champion product visions, to align development activities with customer needs, and to assist in the creation and execution of go-to-market plans. Candidates for this position should be excited and informed about relevant technologies and industries, be able to develop strong business cases for emerging technologies, and be able to articulate a compelling vision of technology’s role in creating positive impact.

This person must be customer focused and data driven. He or she should have extensive experience analyzing prospective markets, identifying customer needs, performing competitive analysis, developing marketing and business requirements, and working with internal and external development teams to ensure that products are developed, tested, and released to the level appropriate to their stage in the lifecycle: prototype, beta, or commercial release. This person will have access to Vulcan personnel, resources, and infrastructure. However, this is a hands-on role that requires individual accountability, engagement in multiple concurrent projects, and effective operation across a spectrum of subject matter, timeframes, abstraction, and complexity.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working cooperatively with engineering and product development teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple products simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging at multiple levels, from high-level strategy to tactical execution.
  • Knowledge and experience across multiple technology markets.
  • Experience developing networks of industry relationships.
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and partners at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to adapt and remain positive to changes in company’s investment profile and risk tolerance.
  • Ability to take on extensive responsibility and excel in a small team environment; strong work ethic and self-starter.
  • Program management experience and budget responsibility desirable.

Education/experience/certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution and 12+ plus years’ relevant experience.
  • MBA preferred.
