Analyst, Oil Storage

Genscape is seeking a talented and driven analyst to support and help advance our Gulf Coast Oil Storage products. The role will be part of a growing oil analytics group and will provide opportunities for growth in oil market analytics and operational expertise. Major responsibilities include being the lead analyst on a specific storage product account, ensuring overall product deliverables, and publishing timely and relevant information to customers. The role will work closely with team leaders and Product Management to maximize storage data integrity, provide focused research on product expansions and optimize operational processes.

A day in the life of an Oil Storage Analyst:

  • Research new oil storage projects in the U.S. Gulf Coast to support new product development in refined products
  • Take responsibility for a regional oil storage account, which includes meeting all operational standards and scheduled publishing deadlines
  • Verification of incoming data quality for processing and distribution including regular review and required data transformations to produce world class products and services
  • Learn about, improve on, and document existing methodology and work processes
  • Provide research inputs and statistical analysis for all Genscape Oil Storage products
  • Respond to data issues and breaks by consulting IT and R&D teams to resolve all issues
  • Create seamless working relationships with our flight crews and offshore teams
  • Gain market knowledge and become a subject matter expert in the oil storage industry
  • Provide timely and insightful customer communication

 

Success in this role will look like:

30 Days

  • Become familiar with Genscape’s proprietary oil storage monitoring process
  • Gain in-depth understanding of new terminals associated with your account
  • Learn key skills in tank measurement process and QC algorithms
  • Build knowledge on current state of regional oil storage infrastructure and key players

60 days

  • Take lead on a storage account with responsibilities for data verification and meeting publication deadlines
  • Gain in-depth knowledge on refined product storage algorithms and underlying assumptions
  • Build knowledge of oil market and issues that impact your account
  • Begin writing and editing publication commentary
  • Build SQL skills

90 days

  • Take full responsibility for a regional Crude Oil or Refined Product Storage Publication
  • Serve as point-of-contact for customer inquiries regarding oil storage in your account area
  • Provide recommendations for and implement refined product algorithm improvements
  • Develop in-depth expertise in trading markets and the international oil supply chain
  • Research and produce market publications, including blogs and white papers
  • Build in-depth repository of data on additional areas for product expansion

Other experience you would have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Math, Physics, or Research based background preferred
  • Strong quantitative and statistical analytic capabilities required; skills in coding in R a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of global oil supply chain, physical and futures trading preferred
  • Experience in the energy industry preferred
  • Experience in Data Manipulation, Process Management, Software Testing, etc. a plus
