Software Developer Intern, Nodal Market Analytics

Genscape is seeking a technically strong intern in our Austin, TX office to help to develop an automated process for collecting and maintaining GIS coordinate information in support of our Real Time and Nodal Insights Products.  The ideal candidate for this position will have experience developing in distributed technologies. Prior business analysis, MS EXCEL, and SQL/PLSQL experience is preferred.  Additionally, various front end technologies would be a benefit (e.g. HTML5, Google Maps Integration, etc.). The Intern must be a self-starter and a highly motivated problem solver. The Intern - Business Analyst/ Jr. Software Developer must be an effective communicator and collaborator with customers, peers, and manager.

The successful candidate will help with the design, development and maintenance of Genscape’s new Nodal Market Analytics and modeling platform which combines proprietary and publicly available market data with analyst insight to provide energy trading insights to our customers. In this role, the candidate will work with product management and subject matter experts to gather and document product requirements and designs associated with our geo-mapping functionality.



  • Develop a documented process flow for identifying, collecting, distributing and maintaining coordinate information .
  • Publish clear & comprehensive technical documentation as required.
  • Provide accurate effort estimates for development tasks & communicate any threats to estimated timelines as they become apparent.
  • Support daily operations


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Seeking 4 year Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent
  • An understanding of solid object-oriented design principles, relational databases, and distributed software design.
  • Relational database design & SQL development experience (preferably using PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with SQL syntax, especially in environments that use various database engines – including SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Oracle.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate a strong initiative to achieve in a highly competitive environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience with the design and implementation of creative software solutions.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced and entrepreneurial environment.
