ABOUT FBN

Farmers Business Network (FBNSM) is a rapidly growing data and commerce platform for farmers. FBN brings data science, machine learning, and peer-to-peer networking to agriculture. We’re creating the fastest-growing network of farmers in America, who in turn have already built the largest geospatial farm dataset - nine million acres worth (and still growing). The data have proved to be incredibly potent and farmers have asked for other ways FBN can be an independent and unbiased business partner to their farms.

Last fall, we launched FBNSM Procurement, FBN’s service that procures low-cost, high-value inputs for farmers by leveraging the buying power and data-richness of its farmer network. Procurement has helped hundreds of farmers fundamentally change the way they purchase their inputs. We are looking to scale this service from hundreds to thousands of farmers over the course of the next year.

Job Overview

The purpose of the Agronomist is to aid in development of agronomic products and sales strategy, business development and supply complete and unbiased agronomic support to clients. Areas of service include, but are not limited to; agronomic issues, fertility and irrigation management, crop scouting, data collection and reporting, pest management recommendations, development of recommendations for crop inputs and hybrid selection and creation and presentation of educational training sessions. Daily professional interaction farm operations, landlords, operators, and seed and chemical company employees is expected. Excellent communication and people skills and a broad understanding of production agricultural practices is a must. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license.

The successful candidate must be dedicated to the tasks at hand, self-motivated, highly ethical, desire to work hard, and always strive to provide unbiased information and to produce the highest quality of information and service to the members.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy, Plant Science or related field from an accredited University.
  • Three or more years of applicable field experience including sales, marketing development and support.
  • Certified as a Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg) or Certified Crop Advisor (CCA).
  • Strong understanding of tillage and irrigation practices, soil fertility and farm applications of precision.
  • Basic understanding of crop protection products and practices, weed and insect identification, agricultural chemical and seed products.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.
  • Valid driver’s license

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Scientist or related field from an accredited University.
  • Five or more years of applicable field experience including sales, marketing development and support.
  • Certified, or has the ability to become certified, as a Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg)
  • Candidate must be comfortable with technology and ideally the latest precision ag systems
