San Francisco, United States

Looking to expand your already broad technical accounting skillset to help manage the day-to-day accounting operations of a quickly growing SaaS company? Do you love being surrounded by the brightest people you’ve ever worked with, doing the best work of your life?  Then come join Gusto’s Finance, Business Operations & Strategy team!

Based out of San Francisco, you will help drive the financial reporting and operational accounting functions in a high-impact, high-responsibility role. You will report to the Controller and serve as a foundational member of the accounting team. At Gusto, you’ll have an incredible opportunity to grow together with a high-energy, mission-driven, and rapidly growing team.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Process Development & Documentation: You’ll be working with the existing team to build out efficiency-gaining measures both within the team and across the organization. You’ll also clearly document those processes so that anyone could jump in to take them over.
  • Audit Prep and Execution: What’s good for auditors is good for Gusto. You’ll be helping to develop best-in-class documentation.
  • Month-End Close: Always be closing… as long as it’s within the first 8 business days of the month. From closing the books to reporting to management, you’ll be involved in pulling together financial metrics and providing insights.
  • Systems Implementation: Technology is our friend, and we’re always looking for the best way to utilize it to make our work more accurate and timely.
  • ...and more!

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Experience: You have 3-6 years experience, a majority of which has been with a Big 4 or mid-tier public accounting firm. Additional in-house operational experience is a plus. CPA or active candidacy is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • You have the ability to identify, research, evaluate and document technical accounting matters, ranging from standard recurring processes to unique and one-time transactions. Experience drafting SEC-level financial statements (10K/Q) is a plus.
    • You understand the fundamentals of a robust capitalized software process. Having run a process is a plus.
  • Exposure: We run a lean team here at Gusto, and we intend to keep it that way. You are able to roll up your sleeves and get in the weeds on a regular basis, while translating results to management in a productive manner.
  • Approach: You’re never satisfied with doing what’s been done, unless you’ve determined that it’s the best way forward. You look not only for the “How?” but also the “Why?” behind it.
