ArenaNet is hiring an

Advanced UX Designer

Bellevue, United States

We’re ArenaNet—we’ve created a studio that makes online worlds infused with innovation, hand-crafted excellence, and creative passion. We're not the only ones who share this passion; gamers made Guild Wars 2 the fastest selling MMO game in the West with more than 3 million copies sold in its first 9 months, and players and press have consistently called it one of the best MMOs of all time.

Our studio is built on foundations of excellence with a focus on community. We constantly innovate, unlocking the true potential of online role-playing with game-changing titles like Guild Wars 2 and beyond. The status quo is not good enough for our dedicated worldwide community of players, which is why we question the de facto industry conventions and demand more from ourselves as developers.

We are building an unparalleled online role-playing game. For that, we need an Advanced UX Designer. Empathetic. Communicative. Insightful. You love to craft and polish the interactions between humans and fantastic game worlds.

To begin, you will collaborate closely with many disciplines to establish and cultivate a mindset focused on excellent player experiences. The team will lean on you to distill critical game-interaction concepts into documentation, visualizations, or prototypes. We’ll tap your expert knowledge as we set up our tools and workflows. You’ll help design the process that others will use to design the game.

In the years to come, you will gather insights from user feedback, interaction data, competing products, and our community of players. You’ll be a customer advocate, constantly acting in the interests of a wide and diver player base. You’ll help us include many backgrounds, ability levels, and playstyle preferences into a better online world.

Our design team values understanding. We know that our industry is always changing. What we build today will influence and inspire the next generation of game developers. What an incredible opportunity—and great responsibility.

We believe that design serves the team, the project, and the players. To do so, we must communicate impeccably and support each other. We to strive to continuously improve our tools, techniques, and processes. We seek to uncover the underserved perspectives and diverse voices amongst ourselves and our players.

If you believe this role is perfect for you, we would love to hear why.

Here are some of our ideas:

  • You have built games as a UX designer previously, particularly with Unreal Engine.
  • You would feel comfortable helping engineers or technical designers build excellent UX into tools and workflows.
  • You have researched or developed open-ended interactions and experiences, such those found in multiplayer games or social applications.
  • You like to communicate with visuals, animation, or interactive prototypes.
  • You have a background or education in human-centered design, psychology, or cognitive/behavioral sciences.
  • You are eager to produce a high-quality online RPG that could be played by millions for years to come.
