YOUR ROLE IN A NUTSHELL:
The purpose of the Assistant Accountant role is to assistant the Finance Accountant with the day to day financial accounting and reporting duties for one or more Operating Companies (OpCo) within WPP. The role works under the guidance of and provides support and assistance to the Finance Accountant responsible for the OpCo being supported. The role is also responsible for engaging and partnering closely with key stakeholders across the business and within WPP Finance on a daily basis 

WHAT YOU WILL SPEND YOUR TIME DOING:

Financial Accounting & Reporting functions – assistance with / responsibility for: 

  • Completion of month end reports including bank and balance sheet reconciliations, general journal posting, pre payments and accruals 
  • Assistance with preparation of Monthly management accounts  
  • Assistance with preparation of profit and loss, accruals & prepayments 
  • Assistance with preparation of the month end and year end Accounts Pack for review 
  • Bank reconciliation, posting and balancing
  • Intercompany reconciliation and upload to ICS system
  • Assistance with Year-end budget preparation and year-end audit analysis
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly tax returns including GST, FBT and BAS 
  • Entering daily transactions into the accounting system/s
  • Day to day support to the other team members 
  • Support to the Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable functions when required
  • Support the corporate reporting to prepare financial statements, financial reports and other annual external compliance reports 
  • Ad hoc duties to support the team
  • Preparation of financial data in accordance with the group reporting timetables
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with OpCo Finance team members and 
  • Ensure a high standard of customer service in line with agreed SLA (service level agreements) compiling key business metrics for reporting to management and continuous improvement purposes
  • Adherence to the Financial Accounting & Reporting function in accordance to Sarbanes & Oxley Control processes (SOX) 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Ideally Tertiary education (and ideally CA / CPA qualified or working toward completing this qualification) 
  • 1+ years' experience in similar role/s with responsibilities managing internal and external stakeholders, ideally having experience in Media / creative / digital industries 
  • Knowledge of technical accounting skills
  • Technology skills including in MS Excel, database applications and ERP systems
  • Experience using accounting processing tools (e.g. Blackline or equivalent)
  • Able to manage and build relationships both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - articulate
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability and experience in working with and meeting key performance targets
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and to adapt in changing environment
