Assistant Controller

Pager is hiring its second accounting professional! As assistant controller, you will work closely with the director of accounting, performing daily bookkeeping as well as assisting with month-end close and additional projects. The ideal candidate is someone who is excited to be part of an early stage company where they would have the opportunity to support the financial groundwork and processes that fuel the scaling and day-to-day operations of a complex financial organization.


Being part of a small team, you will have the exciting opportunity to increase efficiencies, optimize current procedures, and affect how our financial systems develop. In this position, you will be communicating directly with medical professionals, vendors, and customers, so excellent email etiquette is essential.

As a potential member of the team, you should also have strong attention to detail and be able to proactively and independently manage workflow with an eagerness to learn new skills and tasks.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare various schedules monthly
  • Review and post employee credit card transactions
  • Prepare and process payroll associated with medical professionals
  • Process employee expense reports
  • Full cycle AP processing
  • 1099 preparation and mailings at year-end
  • Bank deposits & monitoring bank account
  • AR & AP account maintenance, including collections and vendor relations
  • Customer invoice creation and mailings
  • Assist with yearly audit and ad hoc projects as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 2-3+ years of professional experience (CPA or CPA candidate a plus)
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
  • Experience with accounting software (Quickbooks preferred)
  • Knowledge of GAAP and monthly close adjusting entries with a solid understanding of internal controls
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment (organizational skills a must!) – able to balance attention to detail and swift execution
  • Self-motivated and self-managed - able to think independently and opportunistically; has excellent problem-solving abilities
