Assistant Lab Manager, Hudson Valley

We’re thrilled to announce the opening of our first-ever in-house optical lab in Sloatsburg, New York. As a vertically integrated brand, this lab is the next step in continuing to provide a remarkable customer experience, allowing for more sustainable growth across our supply chain. We’re looking for an experienced and incredible Assistant Lab Manager to join the core management team and help us build the lab from the ground up. This person will support the General Manager in overseeing day-to-day lab operations and will also be responsible for building a world-class team, training and development, inventory management, and team KPIs.

What you’ll do: 

  • Report directly to the General Manager of the facility and manage the entire lab in GM's absence
  • Oversee all day-to-day operations including five direct reports and large production team
  • Oversee all process improvement initiatives for the lab
  • Oversee training and development for the entire lab—create new trainings, coordinate and lead ongoing trainings, maintain the training calendar and appropriate documentation, and ensure consistency among our training materials across functions
  • Report on lab KPIs on a regular basis
  • Support the hiring and onboarding for new employees
  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment

Who you are: 

  • Equipped with 6+ years experience in the optical industry
  • Experienced with ERP software system
  • Highly analytical and have experience reporting on key metrics and root cause analysis via performance scorecards
  • Armed with extensive experience managing large teams
  • Warehouse operations experience
  • Extremely safety-oriented (nothing get past your eyes!)
  • Great with people and you enjoy teaching and training—and are able to resolve any personnel issues
  • An effective communicator (both online and offline!)
  • Continuously focus on improvement and are never satisfied with status quo

  • Licensed optician or optical retail experience
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience
  • OSHA training
  • ABO certified
  • Mechanically inclined
  • CPR certified
