Department Overview

Supply Chain - The SpaceX Supply Chain Department is a critical player in our operations. To capitalize on our technical and market success, our team will execute large-scale projects that will define the bottom-line for the company. The functions within the department include procurement, planning and fulfillment, supplier development and quality, logistics and inventory. As SpaceX becomes the overall market leader, they will position us to maximize valuation, fuel growth and ensure achievement.

Position Overview:

The Associate Buyer is a critical player in our Purchasing Department. Under limited supervision, they support the SpaceX’s procurement Team through the purchasing and order management of springs, fasteners, fittings, bearings, and other hardware for both production and R&D.  

Responsibilities

  • Execute to the defined purchasing strategy of a specific commodity.
  • Quote and release purchase orders with suppliers in accordance with quality and delivery requirements
  • Negotiate pricing for part packages and create should-cost models for products
  • Manage overall supplier relationships including supplier selection, day-to-day communications, and problem solving
  • Follow-up with suppliers to obtain purchase order acknowledgements and delivery dates for purchase orders
  • Proactively provide updates to SpaceX management and internal customers on supply issues
  • Expedite orders that will negatively impact production or R&D schedules
  • Create, review, and analyze data in order to improve supplier performance and align supply and demand
  • Support regular scorecard reviews with key suppliers
  • Assist with the resolution of supplier invoice issues
  • Maintain current supplier and part number information in the SpaceX ERP system

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, business, or supply chain required
  • Be detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment
  • Ability to conduct all activities with the highest degree of integrity

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or supply chain highly preferred
  • Experience working in the Aerospace or Medical industry.
  • Be able to prove a strong track record of leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills in MS Office Suite
  • Remarkable problem solving skills with a bias for speed
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with suppliers, peers, management, engineering and production teams
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced work environment.
  • Must be able to work long hours as needed.
