Director, Total Rewards and People Operations

Join our People team as Director, People Operations. We are looking for a highly-collaborative, results-oriented, consistently-communicating, and organized person who can build from scratch and can jump between strategy and tactical implementation without a hitch. Reporting to the Head of People, you will ensure the efficient operation and continuous improvement of our People processes, including onboarding, offboarding, promotions, leaves, departures, immigration, compliance. You'll work closely with company leaders, managers, and People team colleagues to support our business, and reinforce our culture, and ensure a great experience for Alectorians throughout the employee life cycle. As an early hire, you’ll be influential in fostering and developing Alector’s culture.

  • Own total rewards philosophy, from design to implementation - ensuring that our rewards strategy aligns with our company strategy and enables us to attract and retain strong talent
  • Continually improve onboarding experience to align new hires to our goals and ways of working, and to integrate new team members and speed-up ramp time
  • Oversee benefits deliverables and processes, to ensure we're up-to-date with the latest market data and insights, and execute annual compensation review process consistently against our compensation philosophy
  • Manage and enhance our systems and people-related data and insights to automate as much as possible to free up team energy for other purposes, enable better decision-making, and maintain compliance (including selecting and implementing our HRIS system)
  • Recommend, develop, and implement policies that align with our people philosophy, and ensure organizational compliance with federal and state laws pertaining to all people-related matters as we scale
  • Create great team-building and social experiences to foster trust, collaboration, fun experiences for Alectorians

Requirements

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You have a proven track record of being hands-on in building processes and programs from scratch and managing people operations
  • You plan in advance, thinking through project interdependencies with ease, and communicate programs and timelines consistently across the business
  • You are self-motivated, organized, and enjoy double-clicking on the details
  • You take pride in having a strong desire to help others and a deep curiosity to learn more
  • You have excellent business judgement, integrity, and discretion, and bring a sense of calm to any challenge
  • You're a problem-solver with sound judgment, who is able to translate data into insights, and insights into action
  • You have a solid and current understanding of federal and California employment law
  • You have 12 or more years of progressive and broad People Operations experience, preferably in high-growth or biotech companies
  • You have a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent practical experience; strong preference for candidates with an MBA or secondary degree
  • You have a point of view but are low ego
