Automation Engineer - Flight Systems

Create applications and tools to help put our autonomous aerial systems through the wringer.

Airware’s next-generation commercial drone systems are built on a full stack, state-of-the-art, homegrown hardware and software architecture, including microcontrollers running real-time embedded firmware, mission-critical flight systems, ground control software, and cloud data management. The Automation Engineer will help build and maintain a platform that ensures Airware’s test and deployment operations are robust, intuitive, and automated. Although this is primarily a software development position, the ideal candidate will have experience working on embedded hardware systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain test infrastructure used internally to write and run functional and integration tests on target hardware
  • Develop applications and tools to:
    • Tie build, test and deployment systems together
    • Interact with lab hardware and measurement systems
    • Launch and control simulation software
    • Manage and analyze data
    • Manage testbed configuration and inventory
  • Work with other development teams to define interfaces to make sure Airware products can be automated
  • Gather needs and requirements from the hardware, software development, and test teams to improve existing tools or create new ones

Necessary Skills and Experience

  • Expert at Python
  • Experience with C/C++
  • Experience with 3rd-party APIs and tying systems together
  • Has solid troubleshooting, debugging and documentation skills
  • Comfortable configuring and managing software processes on embedded hardware and Linux
  • Takes the initiative and is self-driven

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Knows JIRA, Stash/Git, and latest CI/CD systems such as TeamCity
  • Familiar with JTAG, I2C, CAN
  • Expert with network protocols and configuration
  • Comfortable with server configuration management and software deployment
  • Experience building and maintaining databases
