Suffolk University Human Resources department seeks a Benefits Coordinator to join our team. 

The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for processing of benefit changes as well as the administration and record keeping for certain benefit programs primarily using the Workday system.  Also provides general administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources Office.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Act as the day-to-day administrator of employee benefits including medical, dental, FSAs, and COBRA. Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations in Workday. Answers employee questions about assigned benefit plans and Workday, handling as many as possible independently. 

Process monthly bills, audit benefit vendor invoices, integration file transfers and reconcile monthly reports with Accounting. Prepares check requests, purchase orders and travel request forms and reports. Formats correspondence, reports, charts as assigned using MS Word or Excel.  Work with payroll to process necessary payroll adjustments.  Monitor integration reports to our vendors and troubleshoot errors when necessary.

Along with other office staff, answers telephone and greets visitors in a tactful manner.  Callers may range from current employees requesting benefit or policy information to applicants for employment requesting information about open positions (or potentially open positions) to credit card companies or banks requesting verification of employment.  The incumbent fields calls, answering some independently and referring others to the appropriate person in the department or to other University departments.

Supports coordinating Suffolk’s annual Open Enrollment, benefits fair, and Healthy U programs.  Acts as a liaison between employees and insurer advocating for the employee where appropriate. 

Performs other duties, as requested.


2 to 3 years office experience, preferably in a Human Resources area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and on the telephone.  Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.

Experience with Workday preferred.

Accounting experience preferred.

Excellent ability to multi-task.

Excellent computer skills and proven experience using MS Word and Excel

Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain and track budget records.

Experience in employee benefit administration or equivalent is preferred
