Bioinformatics Scientist - Algorithms

The Helix Bioinformatics team is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join our cross-functional team to develop and apply cutting-edge approaches to processing, analyzing, annotating, and interpreting population-scale human genome sequence data. You will work closely with lab operations, research informatics, engineering, and custom products to create our world-class genomics platform. At Helix your responsibilities may include:

  • Designing, implementing, and testing novel next-generation sequencing analysis methods
  • Development of novel computational models for quality assessment and control at scale
  • Research and development of innovative methods for interpretation of NGS data
  • Applying statistical methods towards analyzing population-scale genetic data

What we're looking for:

  • PhD in computer science, biostatistics, math, bioinformatics, or related field; cross training in genetics a plus
  • Significant experience in hands-on analysis of next-generation sequencing data
  • Developed novel algorithms for processing exome or whole genome sequencing data, evidenced by strong publication record
  • Experience with genome-wide association studies, human population genetics, and statistical genetics including imputation and haplotyping
  • Experience with high performance computing environments and/or cloud-based environments
  • Programming experience using statistical tools such as R and scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or Ruby
  • Ability to be self-driven and work well together in a cross-functional and interdisciplinary team
  • Experience with communicating results and concepts to a diverse audience including geneticists, engineers, laboratory scientists and business development professionals
  • Familiar with application-level programming languages such as Java or C/C++
