The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, negotiate and award general and subcontracts, materials and services required for all non-tunneling construction activities including: Standalone construction, facilities improvements and site activation.
  • Using scope, specifications and drawings created by design engineering teams, select construction suppliers through a competitive bid / tender process.
  • Develop construction cost estimates; prepare and present comparative cost analysis of own construction cost estimates and contractor / subcontractor bids.
  • Build a network of approved and reliable general and subcontractors, creating strong working relationships to ensure cost, quality and delivery targets are met.
  • Create and oversee requests for quotation, ensuring non-disclosure agreements, general terms and conditions, construction schedules, schedules of payments, submittal registers and other related contract instruments are negotiated and in place before construction begins.
  • Review all proposals and change order requests from general contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Validate, analyze, and make sourcing recommendations based on analyses of Supplier quotations.
  • Manage respective supplier relationships and performance, including but not limited to dispute resolution, supplier scorecards, and periodic business reviews.
  • Work with receiving, finance and suppliers to reconcile discrepancies in receiving and invoicing.

Basic Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Supply Chain.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in Construction Purchasing, or Construction Project Management with 1 - 3 years of experience as an independent Project Manager.
  • Additional experience in project controls or construction management preferred.
  • Excellent negotiation, written and verbal skills; Organizational skills to manage and track transactional details; Team player and with strong interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Open-minded self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve; Demonstrated experience achieving and exceeding cost-reduction objectives
  • Excellent Excel and other MS Office skills required; Experience with ERP or MRP purchasing systems preferred
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects, with various teams including construction teams, engineers, and Suppliers.

Additional Requirements

  • Position may require extended work hours and weekend work
  • Position may require use of personal vehicle to transit between work sites.
