Job Description:

The CBT Coach is responsible for supporting a caseload of Lantern users to provide program personalization, facilitate engagement, and promote the learning and application of cognitive-behavioral techniques. This work is primarily conducted through our online portal, although limited phone contact with users to build rapport and develop goals is also a regular responsibility. The position requires high-volume contact with a large caseload of users. Current program tracks focus on anxiety, body image and disordered eating, and stress, with more in development for future release including our upcoming mood program. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position based out of our San Francisco office.

Primary Responsibilities:

Guide and support Lantern users as they move through our app-based CBT program, assisting them to get the most out of the content by providing motivation, encouragement, accountability, and constructive feedback. The CBT Coach’s goal is to help empower users to manage symptoms of anxiety, stress, and disordered eating as they work towards their personal goals. This includes:

  • Becoming an expert in our product, programs, and coaching approach
  • Engaging new users in an introductory phone call
  • Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with users via our online messaging system
  • Offering personalized, meaningful feedback to users about their questions and experiences with the Lantern techniques and lessons
  • Participating in regular coach team meetings, professional development trainings, and consultation groups
  • Identifying and responding appropriately to users whose mental health needs exceed Lantern’s offerings according to our risk management protocol
  • Relaying constructive, actionable feedback about the coaching product to our team

  • High technology fluency and comfort learning new applications
  • Be adaptable and thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibly utilize coaching techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, SMART goal setting, assessing stages of readiness for behavior change, etc.
  • Basic competencies with application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy principles and techniques
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with a diverse group of users across age (18+), gender, socioeconomic, geographic, and cultural demographics
  • Committed to building your skills and continuing education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold advanced degree such as MSW, MA/MS in Counseling, Psychology, or other mental health related field; or other health related field with significant mental health experience.
  • Have 1-2 years of experience providing direct services to patients/clients.
  • Experience providing manualized or protocol-based interventions such as CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Interventions strongly preferred.
  • Interest in high volume contact with users to address a variety of goals and mental health concerns.
  • Experience working with any of the following populations or settings: Chronic illness, eating disorder populations, burnout, depression, primary care/medical settings, employee wellness programs.
  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally responsive care to diverse client/patient populations.
