The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a senior executive responsible for the overall strategy, management, and implementation of information technology (IT) within an organization. The position will be responsible for leading a team of IT professionals and collaborate with other executives within PointClickCare to ensure that technology aligns with the organization's strategy and objectives. They will be responsible for managing IT resources, including hardware, software, networks, cloud environments and data centers, to ensure that the organization's IT infrastructure is secure, efficient, and effective. This executive will also assume leadership for leading the organization's digital transformation efforts and driving innovation through the use of emerging technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation), including enterprise architecture frameworks and disciplines. In addition, the CIO plays a crucial role in managing change within the organization, implementing and leading governance structures, overseeing architecture review boards and essentially ensuring that the organization's technology investments are aligned with OKRs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement IT Strategy: Developing and implementing a comprehensive IT strategy that supports the organization's overall business goals. The CIO will work with other executives to identify key technology trends and opportunities, changing business needs, assess the organization's current IT capabilities and assets, and develop a roadmap for future technology investments.  The responsibility will also include implementing and leading the necessary governance and meeting cadence required to keep the strategy up to date and aligned to corporate objectives.

  • Portfolio and Program Management: Overseeing the organization's IT portfolio and program management efforts, including identifying and prioritizing IT projects, managing project timelines and budgets, and ensuring that IT projects are aligned with business goals and objectives. Part of this aspect includes assessing and solving for delivery models, critical skills and competing priorities, and will require the successful candidate to develop and implement project management methodologies and tools, such as agile methodologies, to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Cyber Security/Information Security: Ensuring that the organization's IT infrastructure and data are secure, in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, and protected against cyber threats. The CIO will work with other executives to develop and implement data security policies and procedures, oversee the implementation of appropriate security controls, and conduct regular security audits, evaluations of the overall cyber posture and risk assessments.  This aspect will include interaction with the company’s Audit Committee who manages this aspect of risk at the board level.

  • Enterprise Architecture & Frameworks: Selecting and implementing an enterprise architecture framework and associated disciplines to validate application rationalization and optimizing platform and technology investments. Once defined, the role will oversee the development and maintenance of the organization's enterprise architecture, including defining the architecture vision and strategy, developing architecture standards and guidelines, and ensuring that technology investments are aligned with the organization's overall architecture. The CIO will also be responsible for promoting the adoption of best practices and standards related to enterprise architecture.

  • SaaS: Identifying and evaluating software as a service (SaaS) solutions that can help the organization achieve its business goals and objectives. This includes assessing the organization's needs for SaaS solutions, selecting and managing SaaS vendors, and ensuring that SaaS solutions are integrated with existing systems and processes. The CIO will also be responsible for optimizing the organization's investment in SaaS solutions, including monitoring usage and costs, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains.

  • Application Development: Overseeing application development efforts for internal systems to ensure that technology solutions meet the organization's needs and are delivered on time and within budget. This includes managing application or software development teams, overseeing project timelines and budgets, and ensuring that applications are tested and deployed in a timely manner.

  • Architecture Review Boards: Establishing and leading architecture review boards to ensure that technology investments are aligned with the organization's overall architecture and that architecture standards and guidelines are being followed. The architecture review boards will also be responsible for reviewing and approving technology investments, identifying and mitigating architecture-related risks, and promoting the adoption of best practices and standards related to enterprise architecture.

  • Change Management: Leading change management efforts related to technology initiatives as well as people/organizational change priorities. This includes developing communication plans, providing training and support, and ensuring that employees are engaged and invested in the change. The CIO will also be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks associated with technology changes, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and promoting the adoption of new technologies.

  • Manage IT Resources: Managing all IT resources, including hardware, software, networks, internal cloud operations and data centers. This includes developing and managing IT budgets, overseeing the procurement of IT equipment and services, and managing vendor relationships. The CIO will also be responsible for ensuring that the organization's IT infrastructure is secure, reliable, and scalable.

Qualifications- The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • At least 15+ years of experience in information technology, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of change management principles and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead change management efforts for technology initiatives, particularly those related to SaaS and cloud computing.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Previous experience in building a high performing organization and team.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with technology changes.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements, such as data privacy laws and security standards, particularly in the context of SaaS and cloud services.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends, particularly in SaaS and cloud computing, with a passion for innovation.
  • Experience managing a technology budget and vendor relationships, particularly in the context of SaaS and cloud services.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and disciplines, such as TOGAF, Zachman, or FE.

They will need to be a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of technology trends and their impact on business.
