Chief Sales Officer - CSO

As Africa’s leading safari company, Rhino Africa is tasked to provide a community of international clientele with access to a vast collection of tailor-made, luxurious African experiences across our glorious continent. 14 years into our journey, we are now seeking our first ever Chief Sales Officer (CSO) to manage and grow our dynamic, multinational Operations Team.

Working at an executive management level and reporting to our CEO, our CSO will oversee Rhino Africa's rapidly expanding, multilingual Product and Sales departments and will be responsible for the growth and sustainability of our business. Acting as the direct reporting manager for our Heads of Product; Client Experience; and Sales Performance, with over 30 years of combined experience, our strategic thinking CSO will need to be an experienced and efficient leader, able to maintain control of diverse business operations, while not losing sight of the strategic direction required to drive growth.
Across the two broad fields of strategy and operations, our CSO's core responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:


  • Working closely with our CEO and executive team in defining our business strategy and translating our strategy into quarterly objectives and key results (OKRs)
  • Collaborating with our Head of Client Experience, Head of Sales Performance and Head of Product on designing, developing, implementing and executing expansion strategies for products and destinations based on strategic criteria
  • Setting clear goals for performance and growth, both at company and consultant level in collaboration with our CFO and sales managers
  • Liaising with our CMO to design expansion strategies across over 30 source markets and multiple market segments
  • Integrating operations destination development strategies with our CMO and Marketing department to ensure the strategies are supported by aligned marketing campaigns
  • Collaborating with our CIO in developing technology that supports the scalability and sustainability of our sales operations
  • Working closely with our Business Intelligence team to progressively transform our sales division into a data driven operation
  • Acting as a role model to our organization, living and breathing the Rhino Africa brand and promoting our vision and culture


  • Assuming overall responsibility for achieving our sales targets on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis across all sales divisions
  • Promoting clear and open communication within the sales team and liaising between the leaders of other departments
  • Developing and implementing pricing strategies in line with the constantly changing competitive environment
  • Collaborating with our Talent team in achieving hiring targets in line with our growth objectives
  • Ensuring that our best practices are clearly defined, communicated and followed across all aspects of our operations
  • Assisting our Product team in meeting their targets including supplier relationship management, contracting, allocation, incentives and overrides
  • Overseeing the day-to-day activities of our operations and assisting our teams with advice and guidance where needed
  • Evaluating department and employee performance through the interpretation of data
  • Submitting regular performance reports to our CEO


We are seeking a skilled leader and experienced industry hand, who possesses:

  • A proven track record of success in a CSO function for at least one sizeable operation/organization
  • 5 or more years of experience particularly within a sales/operational role (experience in the African luxury travel industry would be a plus!)
  • A strong understanding of all business processes and functions of a sales and technology driven organization
  • A demonstrable competence for strategic planning, business development and change management
  • A proficiency for data analysis and operational metrics
  • Working knowledge of information systems (Salesforce experience would be a bonus!)
  • A solution and process driven mindset, complemented by problem solving skills and numerical ability
  • Natural interpersonal skills and the capacity to operate as a team player, whilst thinking outside the box to motivate a competitive sales team
