Closures Engineer

The Role

As a NEXTEV Engineer in the Closures Systems team, you will have the opportunity to work in diverse areas of body and closure systems development for our products. 
Closure system development examples include the door structures, roof systems, handles, power litigate systems, dynamic sealing, and closures hardware - including the integration of all these commodities into the vehicle architecture.
You will utilize your expertise in delivering systems and assemblies, not just components, within a lean and agile team of innovative engineers.
The position reports to the Engineering Manager – Closure Systems.
Conceptualize, develop, engineer, design, release and launch assigned closures systems and components
Establish closure system architecture and functional feasibility
Develop and execute to closure system requirements
Complete closure systems on target for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight
Communicate with the Design Studio to resolve feasibility issues
Develop design concepts and production designs in CATIA V5 / V6
Ensure designs are compatible with assembly processes and remain serviceable
Optimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments
Utilize DFSS methodologies, as appropriate during the design, validation and launch phases
Work and release production parts in the PLM system
Verify product conforms to appropriate market regulations on assigned systems
Collaborate with component and system validation, as required, ensuring system targets are met and optimized
Interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product design – run CAE locally for feasibility
Collaborate with key suppliers to support the overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events
B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or related degree (MS preferred)
Three years minimum experience in automotive closure components and subsystem
Engineering for serial production in one or more of the diverse closures commodities
Engineering knowledge of closures structure materials, including aluminum
Proficiency in CATIA V5 or V6 within a product development environment
Experience in design for six sigma (DFSS) – preferably with six sigma certification or have used DFSS methodology in design, validation and/or launch
Ability to implement GD&T and dimensional engineering principles in design
Experience with the development of specifications, DFMEAs, DVP&R’s and other technical documents
Prior experience with volume production
Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and lightweight, recyclable and sustainable materials
