Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for developing tools and automation for the administration of the cloud component of Shape's services. Classic system administration is a part of the job, but the primary responsibility is creation of new software that will drive our infrastructure. The ideal candidate believes in the mantra, “If you have to do something more than once, automate it,” and who can rapidly self-educate on new concepts, technologies, and tools.

Job duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to operationalize and productionalize new service offerings from Engineering
  • Contribute to designs for new infrastructure services and refinements to old
  • Research new promising tools and technologies, and ways to more elegantly/efficiently solve problems
  • Create and maintain documentation on environments, tools, and procedures

Minimum required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience maintaining up time of a customer-facing multi-tier web services
  • Effective communicator with solid writing skills
  • Intermediate level GNU/Linux expertise
  • Experience with an automated configuration management system (i.e. SaltStack)
  • Proficiency with at least 3 modern, widely-used scripting or programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, Go)

Bonus knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Experience running, deploying, or building Big Data infrastructures (BigQuery, ElasticSearch, etc)
  • Experience administering or extending distributed monitoring and logging systems
  • A strong commitment to improving security in everything you touch
