Cloud Solutions Architect

Skytap is looking for a talented bi-lingual (English and Spanish) speaking Cloud Solutions Architect to be a technical leader in the field to both support our sales team and help deliver migrations to the cloud.  For those that have already spent time at AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud; this is a role to build upon what you have learned and take your career to the next level.

Who we are:
Skytap is a Cloud Service for traditional applications that are based on IBM Power based Operating Systems such as IBM i, AIX, and Linux and their dependent x86 workloads.  Often these are the applications that are “stuck” in the datacenter and need to be either exited as part of an organization’s overall Cloud strategy, or the customer wishes to look for an alternative to an on-premises solution.  Skytap provides a Cloud Service built on Microsoft Azure and IBM Cloud that supports these workloads. 

What we do:
Skytap is the only large-scale public cloud service that provides businesses with an on-demand cloud-consumption based solution for workloads that span x86 and Power architectures.

Skytap is looking for Cloud Solutions Architects that not only understand migrating applications to Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, but have experience in the IBM Power Ecosystem.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate skill in customer engagement, design, and implementation for enterprise application migration opportunities.

Your Responsibilities: 

• Architect hybrid Cloud solutions leveraging the Skytap Cloud Service on Microsoft Azure and IBM Cloud
• Work with Skytap’s customer acquisition team and our partners in acquiring new customers
• Support migration of customer IBM Power systems applications to the Skytap cloud
• Drive and manage the on-going adoption of Skytap Cloud services at existing customers
• Oversee and provide technical reviews of cloud solutions the field and partners design for customers
• Work closely with Skytap’s field teams, customers, and Skytap Product Management and Engineering teams to grow the Skytap solution
• Build technical presentations and solutions demos
• Respond to customer RFPs and RFIs
• Drive the technical and business enablement of your team members, other Skytap teams, and our partners
• Lead yourself and others, both internal and external to Skytap

 Your Expertise & Skills: 

• Experience in at least one of the following: infrastructure architecture, web application architecture, database architecture, integration architecture, and excellent understanding in others
• Experience with both on-premise and Cloud-based network topologies.  This includes the understanding of concepts that include TCP/IP, VPN, advanced local routing, BGP, and ExpressRoute
• Has developed Cloud-based solutions that are architected to the provider’s Cloud adoption framework with an appropriate landing zone
• Experience architecting and selling solutions in at least one of the public cloud platforms – AWS, Azure and/or GCP
• Experience in envisioning new solutions and defending complex architectures
• Experience in defining approach and migrating workloads to a private or public IaaS/PaaS provider
• Understanding of hybrid IT situations – that combine on-premise IT capabilities with Cloud IT capabilities

Bonus Skills:

• Deep vendor-specific Database or Application Clustering design and implementation capability
• Deep understanding of IBM Power architecture.
• Deep understanding of IBM i and/or AIX data protection and replication technologies 
• Ability to automate common tasks in Windows and Linux with an understanding of REST based APIs. Experience with Ansible, Terraform, and other common automation frameworks is highly recommended
• Build and lead virtual teams, both internal and external to Skytap
• Ability to write technical briefs and blog posts

 Additional Requirements:

• Bilingual English and Spanish
• Some North/Central/South American travel may be required, on average between 10% and 25% over the year, but with flexibility in scheduling.  This position is  remote, so it is recommended that you live near a major travel hub.  
• Must have a valid Passport

The base salary range for this position is: $140,000 to $160,000 USD per year. This range is a good-faith estimate, based on a full-time schedule and qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. This range is for the job level posted, though depending on the candidate, it may also span more than one job level. Base salaries offered to applicants are determined based upon a variety of factors, including experience and skills, but are not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law and may vary from the posted salary range. Skytap shares base salary ranges for U.S.-based job postings regardless of state.

Other compensation for this position may include eligibility to participate in Skytap’s stock option plan. Depending upon the position, participation in a Skytap commission plan or bonus plan may be offered in addition to base salary. Other forms of compensation may also be offered depending upon the position.
