Position Overview

As Aclima’s communications designer, you will create compelling and visually interesting creative assets that articulate our brand and vision to usher in a new age of awareness by making the invisible visible. What you create inspires people to see the world in a different way through Aclima’s environmental insights. You intuitively grasp the balance between conveying complex messaging and the clarity required to ensure that our message resonates with each of Aclima’s target audiences.

Who you are:

  • Passion for visual design: You know the difference between "good" and "great" and are able to work within dynamics that challenge teams, clients, and timelines to deliver excellent design. (Not only can you identify and evangelize best practices, but you’re able to push boundaries and explore new territory.)
  • Systems thinking: You love complex questions and using your visuals to communicate that complexity in simple ways through varied platforms.
  • Team skills: You are comfortable working with people who bring many different skills to the table, and can align your talents with theirs. You work best in a participatory, team-based environment.
  • Communication skills: You have strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills. You understand the value of design and brand within a business context.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop data insights and visualizations for the public and in service of impact and communication team needs.
  • Exhibit strong design foundation and design-thinking abilities, generate innovative ideas and design concepts.
  • Stay current on digital design, functionality, trends and systems, and identify new technologies and strategies that benefit short-term and long-term marketing goals.
  • Design web and print advertisements, flyers, signs, brochures, infographics, and other collateral.
  • Design presentations in Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint or video software.
  • Ensure final deliverables are accurate and error free, including file construction, organization and file prepping for printing or web.
  • Communicate project status to clients, vendors and team members to ensure project success and to keep project on track.
  • Translate high-level ideas into unique visual styles and directions, and break those down to the elemental level.
  • Develop internal and external marketing assets for Aclima’s building and city-scale products.
  • Collaborate with and support Director of Communications + Engagement and Sr. Communications Manager as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a human-centered approach to design solutions.
  • Strong layout and visual communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of the digital landscape and how to apply storytelling to digital platforms.
  • BA in a design-related field.
  • 5 + years of design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to Web-based applications.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite, Sketch and prototyping software such as Principle, Invision, Atomic.
  • Design experience across a variety of media (print, web, motion).
  • Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of Web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
  • Interest in the environmental technology industry and passion for Aclima’s mission.
