Flagship Pioneering, Inc. is hiring a

Computational Biologist – Emerging Genomics Technologies

Somerville, United States

What if you could join a rapidly growing company and play a critical role in bringing new medicines to patients through looking at and treating disease in a revolutionary way.

What this position is all about:

We are hiring a computational biologist to drive the evaluation of novel and emerging data modalities to expand and extend our platform capabilities. Cellarity’s drug creation platform relies on the integration and analysis of high-dimensional data profiled in cells and tissues at their native resolution across the genome, transcriptome, and proteome. In this role, you will help us survey emerging genomics technologies, define value propositions for new data types, design pilot studies, and perform analyses to demonstrate how a new data modality can improve our ability to create medicines.

You will work in our Computation and Data Science (CDS) department to drive ongoing development of our platform alongside fellow computational biologists, computational chemists, machine learning scientists, and data engineers. You will closely with lab scientists and our R&D teams to evaluate new single-cell and genomics technologies for their ability to help improve our drug creation platform.

What you would be responsible for:

  • Evaluate emerging single-cell technologies and other novel genomics data types to generate disease hypotheses and guide therapeutic creation
  • Design and execute analyses and develop computational approaches for proof-of-concept experiments for new genomics assays including single-cell, chromatin accessibility, genome sequencing, etc.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of biologists, chemists and genomics specialists to generate insights that improve our understanding of biology and disease
  • Establish and apply best practices for analysis of complex single-cell data types
  • Communicate insights cross-functionally and guide executive decision making

 What experiences you will need:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in Computational Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields with 2-4 years of industry experience post-graduation
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze uncommon or novel data types and building test cases for evaluation of applicability within a variety of projects
  • Extensive experience in Python and familiarity with R
  • Ability to architect experiments and design analysis to create data-driven solutions to complex problems
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to think and communicate rigorously across scientific domains

Company Summary: Cellarity’s mission is to fundamentally redesign the way drugs are created for the sake of bringing new hope to patients.  By shifting the focus from a single target to the underlying cellular dysfunction, we unravel the complexity of disease biology and create medicines that were never before possible. The company has developed unique capabilities that link biology and chemistry with high dimensional -omic data from which we design medicines against the cellular signature of disease. The Cellarity platform allows us to uncover new biology in diseases even in the absence of known causal targets. The company has drug discovery programs underway in several disease areas, including metabolic disease, hematology, and immunology.  Cellarity recently completed a Series C financing and has raised a total of $274M from all funding rounds to date, with contributions from world-renowned investors alongside Flagship Pioneering who created the company.  Cellarity’s goal is to grow into a fully integrated next generation Biotech company driving a new age in drug creation.

Cellarity is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.

Recruitment & Staffing Agencies: Cellarity does not accept unsolicited resumes from any source other than candidates.
