About the Role:

Our Client Success Capability is seeking a Project Delivery Manager with advanced skills in hybrid methodologies (e.g., Agile & waterfall), plus data science expertise, to serve as a client-facing tech lead for consulting engagements. The ideal candidate has a balance of technical project delivery skills plus data science knowledge to support teams as they design intelligent systems to solve clients’ business needs. Our team has significant interaction with both client experts (e.g., data scientists) and executives (e.g., facilitating AI strategy sessions).

Our team comes from a range of backgrounds, but two types of skills/experience are strictly required:

  • Some understanding of machine learning algorithms at the level of practical use, with the ability to explain statistical intuition and reasoning to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience leading technical teams and delivering technical projects, with essential skills like high-level stakeholder management and comfort presenting to executives. We are looking for candidates with a hybrid project management background, i.e., those comfortable with both traditional waterfall approaches and Agile Methodology.

Requirements

Core Requirements – Functional:

  • Exceptional tech leadership skills, with examples of teams led and projects delivered successfully.
  • Experience with hybrid project management frameworks, which include elements of Kanban-based Agile. For example: experience as a Scrum Master.
  • Exceptional proficiency with project- and stakeholder-management theory and practices – demonstrated ability to proactively drive workstreams with minimal supervision, independently escalate and resolve issues, handle changes in technical direction, etc.
  • Exceptional proficiency with fundamental day-to-day processes of project delivery and running a team, for example:
    • Estimating personnel requirements

    • Running effective client meetings (setting context, establishing goals, capturing key decisions, managing scope changes, etc.)

  • 5+ years of experience working in a business context (staff data scientist, technology consulting, systems integration, management consulting, working as an analyst “in industry,” etc.)

  • Strong verbal presentation skills.
  • Strong qualitative “storytelling” via structured slide decks.
  • Strong “data storytelling” with good grasp of data visualization theory.


Core Requirements – Technical:

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Complex Systems, Engineering, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience leading the delivery of technical projects with typical responsibilities like managing a team, tracking milestones, managing client expectations, and executing good practices for hybrid methodology (e.g., Agile).
  • 3+ years of experience with Python
  • Proficiency with standard database skills (e.g., SQL) and fundamentals of data munging.
  • Conceptual understanding of probability & statistics, standard ML algorithms, and computer science fundamentals like complexity, algorithms and data structures.
  • Given support from our data scientists, would be able to help explain Machine Learning concepts, intuition, and rationale to stakeholders at multiple levels:
    • in laymen’s terms using analogies, examples, and minimal jargon

    • at an advanced level for clients with deep statistical background
  • at an advanced level for clients with deep statistical background


Preferred Capabilities and Differentiators:

  • Experience building analytics/ML pipelines in a production environment for enterprises
  • Hands-on experience as a data scientist (e.g., building predictive models working as an “individual contributor” or on a team)
  • Experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks. Our team is often called on to create novel/custom deep learning architectures for complex business problems.
  • Personal projects and Kaggle competition results can be differentiators.


A typical project involves:

  • We perform structured interviews with clients about their business problems and analytic needs – rapidly translating a business objective into the rough cut of an algorithmic solution formulation.
  • We conduct “blue sky”/”art of the possible” conversations on clients’ technology strategy.
  • Given unstructured and complex business problems, our data scientists identify the appropriate analytic or ML use cases that would constitute a solution tailored to client needs. They research algorithms, design experiments, test hypotheses, and build actionable models.
  • We produce prototypes and proofs-of-concept that are tested on large datasets and deliver fully-fledged solutions that are scaled to production.
  • We effectively document and communicate methodologies and results, producing high-quality “storytelling” including data visualizations, dashboards, and executive presentations.
