Credit Risk

San Francisco, United States

Gusto is fundamentally changing how the world works by empowering everyone to put people first. Gusto reimagines payroll, benefits, HR, and personal finance by automating the most complicated, impersonal business tasks and making them simple and delightful.

Want to help build the strategic credit risk function for a quickly growing SaaS company? Want to work on high-impact analysis and gain operational experience collaborating across all functional teams within a startup? Then come join Gusto’s Credit Risk team as its founding member! Based out of San Francisco, you will help support the company’s strategic understanding of credit-related products (e.g. 2 day payroll) in a high-impact, high-responsibility role. You will be empowered by the Head of Risk and help build the initial team. At Gusto, you’ll have an incredible opportunity to grow together with a high-energy, mission-driven, and rapidly scaling team.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Credit Underwriting. Design, implement, monitor, and refine underwriting projects to develop small business and/or consumer credit portfolios.
  • Analytics. Drive insights and actively engage the product and risk teams with latest performance trends. Develop tracking processes, analyses, and forecasting to optimize profitability of prior strategies and recommend improvements to future strategies.
  • Product Design. Propose and monitor new credit strategies while working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to drive operational process changes and improvements.
  • Systems & Process Building. Work with our engineering and operations teams to build and refine cutting edge tools, decision frameworks, and processes to support our credit underwriting initiatives.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience. You’ve accumulated 7+ years of credit underwriting and risk modelling experience in the financial services, payments or fintech space.  You have deep knowledge of drivers of credit behavior and pair that with sound business judgment.
  • Quantitative Background. You’ve earned a degree(s) in Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Technical Skills. You’re a technical ninja with the super power ability to develop insightful financial models and quantitative analysis using Excel, SQL, R, and other data and statistical tools.
  • Soft Skills. You can eloquently distill and communicate complex topics broadly to board members, front-line team members, and everyone in between. You are proactive and have a positive attitude with a can-do, service-oriented mentality.
  • Startup Hustle.  You naturally thrive in ambiguity and where structuring is incomplete, and are comfortable creating order from chaos.  You approach things with an ownership mentality, never settle for the status quo and yearn for a fluid, high intensity startup environment.
